Take a look at this post... they are in the area and made a similar post. I still haven't gotten loose to get away from the lower panhandle when we go out west. Too much game right where we are. smile

RGC sees birds out that way all the time. Have you talked to any of the land owners out that way?

Yeah, I actually work with a guy that farms a couple thousand acres. Haven't found anything yet. The only water I've seen is in town. I am not looking to know someone's super secret spot, just public land, somewhere I can shoot a couple birds

You need to look for Playa lakes on farm land in that area.

Hello DB you got some work cut out for you. Especially this year. From what I hear the playas all have water. This will allow the birds to go where they want to go and disperse across the plains. In years of concentrated water it is easier. Your going to have to get in the truck and find the birds. Then get back in the truck and knock a lot of doors.

Here is tip for you. Go to walmart and get yourself a little girlie journal. When you go to a place and the farmer says go ahead and hunt. Write down his name address and telephone number (not while your talking to him). If he tells you his family names write them down too. Write everything down. Have a big ice chest with a frozen honey ham. I don't mean the little bs ones I am talking about the real deal. When your done hunting go back to his house and thank him. Hand him a big arse ham for his troubles even if he charged you to hunt.

Now with the memory of you handing him a ham and you taking care of his place he will not forget you. You could make a connection for years to come. I call this running and gunning. I get a lot more satisfaction by running and gunning than just going to a paid place where they point to the birds and say shoot.

The only places you will find water this year is east or south of town. Most all my spots are dry!!!!!

Anyone heard of Playas being called Buffalo Wallows? The theory is that the buffalo wallowed in the same spot over many hundreds or thousands of years eventually creating the playa lakes.

Nope, but it sounds like a good theory to go with.

It takes a lot of driving and knocking on doors. I had 4 great spots around Lubbock back in college and i got all of them by looking for water then finding the closest house and going from there.

Good Luck
