might get opp to go duck hunting this year, just to check it out, never been on a "true duck hunt"
anyway, i shoot dove a quail with a SXS 20 gauge, but i also have my fathers old mossberg with a poly choke.
the 20 is chambered for 3 inch shells, the 12 for 2 3/4's.
which gun and what loads should i use, the ducks will be decoyed with shots from 20-40 yards
Thanks guys
For it is not the quarry that we truly seek, but the adventure.

take the 12 gauge and get some 2.75" 1300-1500 fps steel shot loads in #2 or #4 shot with a payload of 1oz to 1 1/8th oz. You can use the 20 gauge and get some Remington 3 inch steel loads too
Wasn't born in Texas, but I got there as fast as I could.

Depending on how old your guns are you may need to check to see if they are designed for steel shot.
Some older guns were not built to handle the pressure of hard steel shot at higher velocities through their barrels. Lead is a lot softer and most game loads from that period did not have the velocity of today's waterfowl loads.
Are you going with someone who duck hunts regularly? Do you have a gunsmith you could ask?
You could also post the make/model/year information here and we could try to help.

Make sure you use steel shot and have no lead on you what so ever or even near you. I use 4shot
