Oh boy.... I told what you posted to my wife. It was the first smile out of her in two days. Thank you, we needed that.

Thanks everyone for the moral support and prayers. We appreciate it very much.

Just got back from a visit. Clotting levels almost back to normal. Another blood transfusion will not be needed. Her demeanor much better. She was trying to eat on her own when we arrived. With all that time of not eating she was hungry and guarding that bowl from even me. Comments were made by staff about how sweet, friendly, and well behaved she was with everyone unlike every vizsla they have had in there. Still don't know where she had been losing blood. Full recovery looks very good and they are saying she should be able to come home tomorrow night. The night emergency vet was aware of a non standard blood test that could be done at a university in Wisconsin where she did her internship that would determine for sure if in fact there is a rodenticide toxin that caused this and that is being shipped out tonight. And god bless her for taking such a personal interest in Blaze that apparently started this morning. I get the feeling that some working with her initially today did not expect her to survive considering the time line. Recovery so far today has been rather miraculous.

Nothing was witnessed and no direct exposure known. We do have poison at the cabin at the hunting lease. I do not put it in my camper and we keep it up high in the cabin. As well I always do a sweep for any on the floor every visit just in case. She stayed with me in my camper her last trip there. The problem we run into is that I have found nests in my camper with a cache of the rat poison pellets from the cabin in the nest. Especially when returning after the summer. It is not a year round lease though my trailer is there year round. As well there is the possibily of eating a poisoned rat either there or at home. We do have a cats that frequent our yard and it is an older neighbor hood where rats are not uncommon. They have been left in our yard by the cats before. I did initially ask the first vet to test for this on day one of the ordeal. Knowing the above I wanted it ruled out, but it was not done and blood tests on everything else came back normal which still was unusual. As well lack of related symptoms at related to the timeline from a possible exposure at the lease was too long. To quote the vet "she would be dead". But in her defense, Blaze with the excitement of the visit was not showing what we were seeing at home and all vitals were 100% perfect. The coagulation test was done on the second day only at my insistance. The vet wanted the tick borne disease test, and the bloodwork people suggested the addison's test as it is a known disease of vizslas. We will not be using the initial veterinarion service ever again. Not for anything. Nor will we be using one that has to send blood and other testing out. We will only use one that does the blood work in house without having to wait a day.

As said earlier, we are still not sure this is from a rat poison. There are issues with the results between the three days of blood work that do not add up for it and lack of some symptoms. That is why we are going with the test the emergency doc told us about. It is ironic is we are hoping it comes back positive for a rodenticide. That is what we are treating and it has an antidote that works. Otherwise we will be looking at some sort of hemophilia issue that would return.

Great to hear she is improving.

We had a boxer eat some sago palm seeds years ago and it tore her liver to shreds. We had her in icu for 10 days and she finally recovered only to have more liver problems. If we hadn't found the seeds she threw up we never would have known what it was. I hope you get it figured out.

Just got back from another visit.

PCV is still low at around 20 (percent of red blood cells) but her oxygen sp02 is good. But they feel the expense of giving another blood transfusion would not be necessary. Rather she will stay another night and let her build that back up on her own. If her PCV had been just a little bit higher she would have come home with us.

Her blood loss is showing now. It had been between her skin and the front of her chest. there is a large lump of pooled blood there. Also she had lost blood under her skin on her belly. Some of those blood cells will be reabsorbed.

The blood testing sent out of state we will not get results from right away, but we feel as one would put it... walks like a duck, quacks like a duck, looks like a duck.... It probably is from a rodenticide despite some of the earlier blood testing having some screwy results.

Blaze is happy, eating, drinking normal, if not eating too much. We got to take her for a walk. As well she got to stalk some blackbirds in the parking lot. Other than looking a little sore and tired, she is her normal self. She is over the hump and has survived this. She will come home tomorrow. From there she will take vitamin K orally for 6 weeks, and get blood tests to insure everything gets back to and stays normal. Thank you everyone for your concerns, moral support, and prayers.

I know it is a sad looking picture, but trust me she is a happy dog today and looked to be enjoying all the attention.

WOW, I cannot imagine what your week has been like. I leave town for a couple of days and it sounds like Blaze had quite the fight. She is a tough dog and glad it sounds like she is doing better, please keep us posted on their findings.

At home she is my wife's dog. That dog could care less about me when we are both home. But outside the home, she is mine. To be honest, though I have major reservations, I am being kicked out of the house this weekend. I had some commitments to a couple people that I delayed, but everyone close to me is insisting I go through with it. If I don't it means I cost a very good friend a lot of money. But it will be a very short trip now if I do.

John glad to hear she is doing better. I'm sure this week has been very stressful. You deserve to get out and let some steam out.
