What do you plan to use the gun for? 7Mag is probably more than you need for Texas hunting.

If you think you need a 7mm I would go ahead to a 300win that way you can use 150gr for deer and if you ever get a chance at elk or larger game you can get 180gr

Everyone will tell you that it's way too much gun for Texas. But, with the wide variety of bullet choices it will do anything you want. Factory loaded 110-175 grain bullets to choose from.
One recommendation though.....invest the extra $200 in a muzzle break to take away the recoil.

Limbsaver pad on mine made a huge difference. With one on it cuts recoil by more then hlaf in my opinion.

Dead is dead. 7mm Mag will do it for everything in Texas, like the .30-06 will..or .270 Win...308 Win..etc. But, a lot of people like it fine. My brother-in-law and several friends swear by a 7 Mag.
Never underestimate the power of stupid people in large numbers

7Mag is probably more than you need for Texas hunting. Yea I guess shooting too flat and hitting too hard is a problem.

There are times and hunting places it gets to go hunting when I expect long range shooting. Much like a fighter jet do you need the afterburners very often, nope but when needed it is nice to have the extra power and speed.

A 7MM is just like the perfect girlfriend. Will never let you down(lost game) always provide food never talk back protect your life and is always there waiting for you.
Plus even if you hit it in the toe, it will die, and you will find it. LOL

The 7mm Mag is no joke. I've owned mine for three years since I've returned from Iraq. When I leave Kuwait, I'll be back in the woods with it to slaughter some hogs.

7Mag is probably more than you need for Texas hunting. Yea I guess shooting too flat and hitting too hard is a problem. if you are limited to one rifle, then its a good all around caliber. if you have a few guns in your aresenal, its ideal for shooting down a clear cut or sendero, but a little much for getting one under a feeder at 75 yards. a really good south and west texas round for when shots can be over 200 yards
For it is not the quarry that we truly seek, but the adventure.

The 7mm Rem Mag is a great round. Flat and fast, with knock down power.
My wife's only thing is it can't stare at her when she is eating or sleeping!
