Last Wednesday, I took my year old Chesapeake Bay retriever, Beare, duck hunting for the first time. The hunting was slow but it was still one of my favorite hunts. This is the first time I have had a dog of my own and it really adds a whole new level to duck hunting. Beare heard his first gun shots and retrieved his first duck. He was hesitant at first about the duck, which was still alive when he got to it. He has gotten in trouble for picking up live animals like frogs, but once he figured out that it is what I wanted, he was all about it. He did great in the blind and he will make an excellent hunting dog with a little experience. It’s going to be a great hunting season with my new hunting buddy.

Thursday, I fished a double. It was windy all day but the fishing was great on both trips. The morning trip we miss an opportunity on 2 big fish but you can’t get them every time. Then it was off to the birds where the fish were stacked up thick. We were catching them 2 and 3 at a time but it didn’t last long and we would have to move back under the birds. We were fishing in 30 ft. of water on anchor using live bait. We went back to the same spots for the evening trip with the same results and a great day of fishing.

I took the weekend off to go down to San Saba, deep in the heart of Texas Hill Country, to go deer hunting with my wife, uncle and a couple of family friends. The hunting was great as expected on opening day. I shot out with 2 bucks and we brought back 5 bucks all together. After filling my last tag early Sunday morning, Megan and I decided to climb Enchanted Rock which is a pink granite mountain that is about an hour from the ranch. It really is nice to get away from everything to enjoy nature and the most beautiful night sky in Texas. With no running water, electricity, or cell phone service at camp, you truly are off the grid.

Tuesday it was back to fishing. Lake Texoma water temperature is now at an ideal 65 degrees which is evident in the fishing. The stripers are really turning on and becoming more and more consistent. I was glad to see that the big fish were still where I had left them and we managed to but an 8 pounder in the boat as well as several more big fish. The birds really weren’t much help today for finding our box fish and I had to do it the old fashioned way. It took me several anchors but when I actually found them it was on. We caught fish until we were blue in the face. We were fishing off of a ledge in 40 ft of water using live shad.

Fishing is hot right now and we should be catching limits of fish through the end of December with the exception of the occasional off day. I have Tuesday, Wednesday, and Sunday available for next week if anyone wants to get in on the action. You can book your trip online at www.stripersinc.com or you can give me a call at (903)815-1609 and I’ll get you set up.

Good Luck to All,
Brian

Nice trips. We hit Richland Chambers this past weekend and nailed the sandies and few hybrids. It didn't take long to get over 300+ fish!

Hope to fill a deer tag this weekend.

Thanks guys!

Sounds like a great tirp on RC, it doesn't take long to put some fish in the box when that water temperature gets into the 60's.

Hope you get a buck

Thanks Jim!

We are in the far south west corner of San Saba County on the county roads west of 501 and north of 71.

Brian
