Just bought 80 apples for .25 each. Not sure why but seemed like a good idea. Anyway thinking about putting them on the ground to see what they may lure in.
Will probably cut some up first. May cut up and mix with a bucket of corn. Might shoot some with a 22.
Any ideas?

When I worked a friend's lease as a kid, one of his clients brought a couple bushels of apples before opening day and asked me to bait his stand with them. We didn't have a hog problem back then, and the apples rotted on the ground. my friend (the landowner) said that the deer probably just didn't recognize the apples as food, since there weren't any apple trees in the area. If nothing else, you'll likely get some hog action off them. Now, if you can come up with a good deal on acorns...

My uncle had a pear tree at his house that would absolutely load up with pears, we would fill a couple 5 gallon buckets with them, deer would always eat them right away.

If they aren't used to it, they probably won't eat any. Only time I have seen it work is when there was an orchard or old farmstead on the place & the trees were already there dropping apples & the deer were used to them.

Like was mentioned, if the deer are not used to eating apples, they may not know what they are. Hogs on the other hand will probably really appreciate them. A buddy of mine put out some "apple deer blocks", the hogs ate them in less than a week and the deer never touched them.

At our place the deer were definately not used to eating pears when we tried it. We just picked them up and threw them around the feeder and the deer ate them till they were gone.

I've cut up sweet potatoes and put out several times. Deer loved them. If I choose to dump some apples I will definatly cut them first. I have a ladder stand that is rarely hunted. will probably put there. I would be ok with a pig or 2.

PIE!! If a deer in Texas even knows what an apple is, he is in a controlled environment.
