Does anyone use a bass boat for duck hunting? My boat has a keel guard and can be beached as long as it's not rocky, but I suppose it would be kind of limiting in terms of getting into the really thin water or getting to spots where you wouldn't know in advance if there are stumps or rocks and such. Plus the mud in the carpet would be annoying I guess.
Any thoughts on the matter?

I've done it a time or two. Just parked the boat and waded in.

Duck Hunters and Bass fishermen are an entirely different species Same cove: I take the bass boat duck hunting from time to time. I have one spot that I have to cross the mainlake and it's too hairy for a duck boat. Just park your bass boat a good distance away and walk to your spot.

I bass fish from my duck boat. But to answer you question, it can be done, park it and walk. Use camo nets to cover it up. I hunted several times form a big white 18' bay boat. Parked it a ways off and walked back to the area i was hunting. Expect it to get nice and dirty though.

My duck boat is an express camo bass/duck boat. Works great for hunting and fishing. A couple years back I had a honey hole that I shot a limit of greenheads every time out. I hunted it every 3 or 4 days for several weeks. Shot limits of greenheads every time out regardless of 2 or 4 hunters. My camo boat broke down so I used a buddies red sparkle boat for a couple of weeks. I used camo netting and birds didn't care what color boat was. I used good camo netting and it worked fine. A couple yahoos shot honey one night and it was no longer a honey hole. I don't shoot my honey holes in the evening. Best way to get rid of your birds.

Hey Nate,
If you decide to use the bassboat, take some pics of it covered up.

Obviously, it depends on the boat. Most bass boats are way too nice to even consider but I did hunt out of a friends bass boat ('87 Ranger) all through college and it was awesome. Nice comfortable ride. We used a pop up blind just like those built for flat bottoms and racked'em and stacked'em on countless occasions. We used a role of burlap and made a skirt that went around the bottom of the boat and would lay over the gunnell to hide the shinny gel coat. The best part was blowing by all the the flat bottoms as they putted across the lake at 10 mph in the dark. It almost wasn't fair. We would be the last one to the ramp and the first to the good spots. It was also awful nice coming back in 3 footers nice and dry.....
