Anyone used night vision scopes and how do you like them? What kind works the best? Im not wanting to spend too much but would like to put one on my .308LR. I have the ND-3 laser that BSA makes and it works awesome until it gets under 50*. Do actual night vision scopes do this? Im wanting to kill hogs with it and need something that will work good but like I said im not wanting to spend thousands. What is the diff between gen1, 2, and 3? Help me out so I can kill adequately!!!!

I've researched a lot about the NV equipment and those that have bought and/or used the Gen 1 and 2 say 3 is the way to go. I personally don't have 4500 to 5000 for it right now. Wish I could get it but don't see that in my near (or far) future. Gen 1 and 2 apparently don't really get all that far yardage wise and is not all that clear to make out what is out there. Best thing to do is research it all you can and make a decision on what you can afford or can save up for I think.

My opinion for what it's worth,

Gen 1- sucks= complete waste of money, needs a lot of illumination at short range to see anything, longer ranges, worthless.

Gen 2- some decent units out there in the Gen 2+ range, prices start at about $1300. D300 pretty good monocular for the price.

Gen 3- save your money for this, good as it gets.

All I can say is buy once cry once. There is no such thing as cheap quality night vision stuff. Just save up and get gen 3. You will save money in the long run because you will not be happy with gen 1 stuff at all. Gen 2 will just make you want gen 3. Everything I got is gen 3 and could not be happier. Dont regret spending the money for the quality of stuff I got and I dont sit around wishing I would have bought something better.

I got a D-740 gen 3 on a Barrett Rec 7 in 6.8 cal. and a pvs 14 gen 3. They are from night optics usa. I also have the 3x magnifier for the pvs 14. I also use the Torch IR illuminator for the really dark nights. If there is any moonlight at all the illuminator is not needed with these optics.
