So I invited my old 1st SGT out to hunt with me last week and he brought his new baby, 2010 Bowtech Destroyer, with him. I, being a Mathews guy, hadn't messed with a Bowtech in a while so I ask if I can give it a pull (very smooth draw by the way). At full draw, SNAP, SMACK, @#!#@$$%!!!!!. Now I'm standing there with blood running down my hand thinking, "How the hell did I just dry fire that thing??" Well, I didn't (thank God cuz what kind of jackass does that to another guys $1000 bow). The string snapped right at the peep sight. I initially thought it may have been a bad install and some rookie damaged or burned the string when they installed the serving but when he took it back to the shop, they told him (too late I might add) that they had a batch of peep sights that had a bur on them that could cut the string. I don't know the brand but it was red aluminum.

So...moral of the story is...if you have a new bow with a red aluminum peep sight, you may want to check with your local shop to see if there is a recall or something. Other moral to the story...next time I'll just ooooooh and ahhhh from a distance and leave the guy's bow alone.

I feel your pain! Nothing like feeling like you screwed up somebodies new toy. I had that happen with a boat before. I drove it all day long and the second the owner wanted to drive it, "bang!" the lower unit goes out. I was so happy I wasnt behind the wheel when that happened!

So other than the string problem what was your thoughts on the Destroyer? I'm looking at that bow now but I've yet to shoot it? I'll be sure to look for that red peep if I do!

Ha that got a good laugh out of me. That would have sucked if you dry fired it.

what was your thoughts on the Destroyer?
-Nice bow but I love my Monster. It did have a smooth draw but I think my old 1SG was off a little on his weight. He said 67 lbs but I think it was closer to 60 so its hard to say how it would feel compared to mine. Still, nice set-up.

Did anything happen to the bow itself?
-Nope, the bow is fine and back up in the field this morning trying to help the old guy with one last crack before WWIII opens up on Saturday.

Also, sounds like Red Eye (the brand of the peep sight) is going to cover the cost of the new string so at the end of the day, my wrist was the only casualty.
