Since I got this gun I've never had a deer run more than twenty yards. Shoots straight and has been reliable for different kinds of shots and the occasional hog. Been on the forum a while and it seems like most people shoot the classic calibers. I guess thats understandible but is there a reason more people don shoot a 7mm08? Just wondering...

I think there are plenty of 7-08 shooters out there, based on the sheer number of manufacturers now offering rifles in that cartridge, and the factory ammunition available. My first 7-08 was in 1988, and I currently own three, my favorite being a Rem 788, followed closely by a Win Mod 70FW Classic. Nothing magical about how well it does on game, just a great all-around performer.

The Win Mod 70FW is what I shoot as well. Love that gun.

I've got one I'll be hunting with for the first time this season and I am stoked. Only problem I've got with the gun is that I cannot find Remington Core-Lokts in 140 gr ANYWHERE.

have been shooting one since 1982, you think that load is hard to find now, you should have tried the first year that round came out. Bought the gun then had to drive 30 miles to find one box of ammo. Didn't take long to start reloading for it.

is there a reason more people don shoot a 7mm08? Just wondering... My guess is that the 7mm-08 doesn't look "that good" on paper. We are now in the age of "magnum mania", and one quick glance at a ballistics chart and its hard to fork over the money for a lesser caliber when a 7 mag is about the same price. I personally think the 7mm-08 is a great round.

I picked up my 708 about 15years ago. Sometime around there anyway. I wanted a Remington VLS in a caliber I could use to deer hunt. It came down between the 708 and the 260. At that time there weren't very many bullet options for the 260, not nearly as many as there are now. So i went with the 708 strictly to to the available options in bullet choices. I have reloaded for my 708 since day one, the rifle has never had a factory round down the tube. I have never once regretted my decision. I was my first 308 based round, and my first 7mm round. The best of both worlds. Since then, i have added a 280improved to my arsenal for shooting heavier bullets, mostly for Elk hunting. And while I do carry the 280 most of the time, I still stretch the legs on my 708 at least once a year.
It's as fine a round for medium sized game as any 270, 308, etc.

I bought a 7mm-08 this year and it is going to be my hunting rifle for the season. The Academy store in tyler has plenty of 140 gr core-loks. My gun groups the 140 gr Fusions better though.

I have a 7 mag and my wife has a 7mm-08, both shoot 140 accubonds, people have questioned it before. I ask them, does a 7 mag kill good at 250 yards? The answer is always yes, Then I inform them well thats the same bullet at about 100 yards with the 7mm08. Everything we have shot with it falls quickly. Its a hell of a round.
 Corn will always win.

Its my favorite round for deer hunting in the places I hunt. I have always had quick kills and my VLS is the most accurate gun I have have purchased straight out of the box.

I was lucky enough to make a trade last year for a 7-08, Rem Model 7 5yrs old with a Nikon Monarch scope and fired only to sight it in before the owner passed away. Used it to kill two deer last year. Mines very accurate shooting 140gr, Winchester Supreme Ballistic Tips. I have been very happy with it and look forward to using it this weekend to put some meat in the freezer.

Browning A-bolt 7MM .08 here....my uncle has one too.
I have killed two deer in one shot before...on purpose. I am that confident with my 7.08 at close range (under 100 yards)
Lined up two does at a feeder, had to wait roughly 15 minutes for the best shot. BOOM, one drops, the other goes 20 yards. Bullet exited both deer at roughly 65-70 yards.
Never fired or purchased a factory load. Grandpa custom loads!
I have lost 1 deer with my 7.08.....the shot was around 275 yards. I would have found the deer but I didn't give him enough time to lie down. I jumped him, followed blood trail to a creek, then he vanished forever.

I grew up shooting a Rem 700bdl lh 270Win. Since my son got big enough to hunt he has shot a 7-08. I have had deer with my 270 run quit a ways, all but 1 of them dropped within 50yds. I have since purchased one for myself, even though I am left handed, I bought a Stevens 200 in 7-08 when it was on sale at Academy earlier this year in a RH bolt action, so I have to learn to work the bolt of a RH gun while shooting LH'd. It doesn't matter to me, I feel it's worth it lots of other lefties do this all the time. If you actually look at it there are probably more 7-08 shooters than you realize! So all I have to say is go shoot!

Academy and Walmart both carry them here in Killeen not sure what you got in your area. try winchester supreme, I love them I have shot a box and 5 out of a new one of those. I like them better than the Remington's they are around $35.00 a box but I dont mind spending a little bit more for a better product, but if I'm not shooting Sierra's I try to go with Nosler (which is what the Winchesters use.) just my 2 cents on that. with a high quality round and scope the 7mm-08 can be a 1MOA to sub MOA rifle out past any reasonable hunting shot distance

I work for the BATF and these guys are lying.
I can verify that you are the only one that shoots a 7mm08.

There are a lot of folks shooting 7mm-08's here in Texas. I have also taken black bear in Canada and plains game in Namibia with it. I have had three of 08's. It is my "go to" hunting rifle. Bob

I have reasearched it and 7mm 08 will be my last rifle purchase. Thats what I always say. There will probably be more but I do intend to get one before next season.
I like the way the ballistics look and that short action.
