Does anyone know if I can get a satellite image of my place from August of this year? I had some timber cut in August and I would love to see what it looks like from the air now. Thanks!!! Matt

I have found that google is about 9 months to a year behind, at least out in our area.
I'd like to see some more recent as well

Trying to get anything more recent will usually cost some dollars, if it can be done! Your best bet is to hire an aerial photography company, which will still be expensive.

Matt -
You might have a chat w/ the customer service folks at Digital Globe in Colorado...
Don't think you can buy direct from them but I know they are constantly imaging. If they've covered your area recently I think you can get the image from Getty.
Good luck!

It's not perfect and may even be useless, but you can download Google Earth for free and use the timeline option. Download the program Type in your address Click the timeline icon Here's a screenshot. http://screencast.com/t/Njc2ZGQx (it's not available for all areas)

Thanks for all the input, guys!! This gives me more to try.
Jimbob, The property is on the Red River/Lamar county line in the community of Halesboro. The Halesboro cemetery is my north east corner.
Thanks!! Matt

Images from last month would be very difficult to obtain this fast in the public realm, if they even exist. When large areas are flown there is typically a time delay so the photographs can be processed and georeferenced. Often people hire companies to fly certain areas, but typically only cover what they are paid to fly and photograph. Good luck on your search, but it will probably be very difficult to find. Most high resolution stuff is flown not satellite.

It's been some years back, but there was a gentleman driving around our neck of the woods doing cold calls trying to sell aerial photos of the ranches in our area.
He was very sharp and cropped/enlarged ranch photos based on the parcels. He sold me a 2' x 2' picture of our ranch. And he thoughtfully provided it in a very nice picture frame which of course was an extra charge.
It's a great glossy photo and I don't know how the guy could ever hope to make a living, since he'd already printed the pics out and I could have said no. Never saw him again so maybe he went belly up.

Google earth will show you the dates of the images it uses.

We hunt pretty close to each other then.

I've ordered from Balboa maps- probably 10 years ago or more- before there was any Google earth. High quality airphoto, it was black and white but perfect.

We used Balboa several years back. Saw the at the extravaganza in Ft Worth. Got an infrared aerial image of our lease. Was a good deal for what we got, the image on CD as well. We could blow it up on our comp and print our own smaller maps of specific hunting areas. Could blow it up large enough to see cattle trails in some places.
Good people to deal with.

All color. Most of Texas 2010 imagery, northcentral still 2008. BTY the date on Google is the copyright date, not necessarily the date of the pics. Prints are $59.95 (24") - $99.95 (36") includes lamination.
