Last year I used mine. As soon as I squealed it, not 15 feet from us couple pigs started grunting and moving towards us. Thats the only time Ive had it work. I got a grunter this yr to try out.

I always keep a sidearm with me since that day.

Good question, I've seen those and wondered if they worked too.

Well, it's not that the squealer does not work in of itself, it's just that the language of a pig does not allow you to just 'blow' a call and have it work. If you've spent much time around them, you'd be amazed at the vocalizations and responses they give to various stimuli. Most folks tune up on a call with a mind for either piglett distress or generall hog distress, and it's not hard to imagine that call going unanswered! I've seen calling hogs in the wild work on several occaisions but it was always a specific call method, and you basically just use it in various places till you get a response. When they DO respond though, you better be ready to shoot! Can't give much info on it but go find Glenn Guess and follow some of his articles. Based on his research I'd say calling pigs is not far off in the future of hunting!

I've had pigs come to my turkey calling too and have had several come too close for comfort. I know they eat turkey eggs...

I read a story in Predator Extreme once about calling hogs. The guy that did it, had success with regular distress sounds. Since they are opportunist, they will take advantage of an easy meal just like a coyote will.
Mmmm Hmmm

Exactly. Just squealing away isn't going to work most of the time. Knowing what the sound IS that you're making is key!

I use a pig grunter and have pretty results with it. Works so good had them coming running in and stop 5 feet from me!
