I agree ctownboy. i sure his stomach was twisted and that he was upset for not finding the deer. i'm glad he looked for 600 yards...he owes it to the deer that he shot. he did everything he could it sounds like.

A long time ago my Marine Drill Instructor told my platoon that 10% of the people in this world are responsible for 90% of the problems. I couldn't agree with him more. Semper Fi!
Thank you dear Lord for equipping me with incisors.

That deer will survive and with any luck you'll get a second chance and you may have gotten more penetration with a fixed blade coc head but as previously stated, not all parts of the shoulder are equal in resistance.

I know exactyly how you feel man, I have lost 1 deer from archery hunting. It was a little spike buck and i hit him around the same area you did. We tracked for what seemed like a couple miles but it really wasn't that far. Crawling through some of the thickest brush i have ever seen. Only for the blood trail to run out. We literaly looked for over 2 hours for more blood. Made me sick to my stomach. Any ways i don't think broadheads were the problem, i was using montecs and same thing happened.
Better luck next time bud!

It's happens normally when you get a shot high, the vitals are missed and shot goes just under the spine. Happened to me last year on a monster buck, we brought out the dogs and still never found it. Oh, the bright side I didn't waste a tag! Catch and release. And I didn't use a X bow!

I am glad that duckncover is trying to learn from his mistakes but to simply say that "Look on the bright side, you still have that tag! Get em next time." is sad. if that is all this sport or animals mean to some people then they shouldn't be going.
You should go out there with every intention of shooting and recovering the animal. not with the thought in the back of your mind that at least you still have the tag
Ummm.... ARE YOU SERIOUS? The guy made a bad shot and is feeling down. its not like 99% of us have never made a bad shot and you now how it feels. I didnt see ANYTHING wrong AT ALL with bjankowski's post!! All he is trying to do is cheer the guy up. I can guarantee you he doesnt go out there shooting deer wherever and not caring becuase he still has a tag!! I dont even know where you got that from!! Its people like you that shouldnt be going out there that criticize every other hunter. I am still confused on what made you come up with the conclusion that he doesnt care if he wounds a deer becuase he has another tag. Oh yea and by the way... look on the bright side, You still got your tag hopefully you can redeem yourself!! Goodluck!

It's hunting, it happens, all a person can do is give it their best effort, prior to and after shooting an animal. Wounding an animal and not being able to recover it is not what anyone wants to have happen, but hunt long enough it does and will. Give it your best shot, and yes, in my opinion you are perfectly ethical and legal to go after another one. Move on... Hey ctownboy, I kinda think crossbow hunting is definitely easier, my 6 year old shot a doe last weekend and I know he wouldn't be able to w/ a compound bow for a few more years, but maybe not cheating. I have never shot a deer w/ one, and would be hesitant to hunt a trophy w/ one just cause they are so damn loud, you want to talk about a deer possibly jumping the string, man.

Look familiar DeerKilla? Based on my intuitive glance at the WOS, it appears you're a creature of habit. Go lurk somewhere else.
Thank you dear Lord for equipping me with incisors.

Wouldn't "lurking" be not posting? Like your post says, differences of opinions are welcome.....and thank you for yours Just Lungin around!
I happened to have a difference in opinion.....according to #6...that's ok. thanks for pointing that out.

I'm going to get a crossbow for my daughter next year when she turns 6 - for the same reasons noted above.

crossbows are good for young children and the elderly. We hunt with an 80 yr old that still kills deer with his!
