I'll start it off with Jack O'Connor. Seems like his writings hold my interest more than anyone else's. Who do you pick?

Since you said "outdoors man" and not hunter, I will have to go with Ewell Gibbons. That Dude must've been half goat and half cajun, he could eat anything.

X2.... his writing brought a certain elegance to the sport, not only was he practical, but his writings about sheep hunting have a certain romance that makes you feel like your there with him Jim carmicheal is also a favorite

"Famous" outdoors man? Theodore Roosevelt hands down as a hunter, naturalist, and conservationist, among many other things outdoors related. Most members of this forum have hunted, fished, or enjoyed nature of at least one of the 230,000,000 acres he was responsible for preserving.

Some good names on this list for sure.
Since this is a hunting forum, I'll mention the late Basil Bradbury. The only man ever to take every available species in North America with a rifle and qualify at least one of each for the Boone and Crockett record book.
Think about that for a second. A record book specimen for every animal in North America.
I doubt it will ever be duplicated.

X2 X3 I just finished reading a book he wrote called African Game Trails. It was about his year long safari in Africa. Also gave a lot of insight into his beliefs about hunting and conservation. Nobody in the U.S. has done more for hunters and fisherman in the U.S.
