I drove down to Cabelas in Buda yesterday afternoon and was looking for a scope for an older Marlin .30-.30. One of the Pine Ridge Scopes was recommended to me when I went in for a Burris and this one was a bit less expensive. The guy handed me the 3-9x 40 .308 Marlin. Did I make a bad choice?
I liked the reticle and how clear and bright everything looked when looking through it.

My brother-in-law has me second guessing that I made the right choice. He claims that the forums he reads doesn't have good reviews of the product and is claiming that the more expensive scopes are better. Does anyone here have any experience with these scopes?

The problem is, this is my great grandfathers deer rifle from back in the day and I just don't see myself spending oodles of money on a scope since it's kind of old. Don't get me wrong, it's a great, reliable rifle but I just don't see myself spending over $200 on a scope. I'm also a woman too, so what do I know.

I had one on a .17HMR that would not hold zero for squat. Additionally, the click value was supposed to 1/4 MOA but would vary from 1 MOA to no movement at all. I had absolutely no confidence in the scope. It went in the trash.

Was told Burris makes Cabelas scopes. Nothing wrong with them. If it's clear and holds zero good enough for me !

I ordered a Cabelas scope and gave it a fog test in a freezer. Was supposed to be fogproof. It failed miserably. I called Cabelas and they immediately sent me a replacement. Tested it and it failed as well. Sent both back to them. I give them credit that the did not hassle me at all about returning them both. I gave them a detailed description of my fog test and they appologized. Great customer service, but poor quality store brand scopes. Get a Bushnell Elite 3200 from Academy. On sale for about $150 right now and a darn good quality scope. Excellent optics and will not fog. Designed and tested to withstand recoil of 10,000 rds of .375 H&H Mag. ammo. If you don't like the Bushnell Elite, look at a Redfield. They are regularly priced at about $150, not on sale.

I'd say try it first, if it doesn't meet your expectations then you send it back. I don't think a store like Cabelas would blink at giving your money back.

I own 2 Cabelas Alaskan Guide series 4.5-14 and they have been very good scopes for the money and hold their zero. I bought a Cabela's Tatical Multituret 3-12 with centerfire turrets and it would not hold a zero so I sent it back for a full refund. I always try to read the customer feedback on an item before I buy it.

I've heard the Pine Ridge ones aren't very good, but the Alaskan Guide one's seem to be ok. Quite a price difference though.

I've had poor luck with Cabelas brand products.

Aggal, Grandpas old rifle could be a lot better than you think.

I love my grandpa's rifle but I wanted a scope to make sure I don't miss hogs when I try shooting them in the head smile The rifle is 60 years old and I didn't want to put holes in it for scope mounts.

I ended up finding a 1977 Marlin 30A with a scope already on it that works great. I haven't killed anything with it yet because I only went hunting once after I got it. The scope did need to be adjusted (the first time I shot it, it hit a foot and a half to the left!). I think I'm happy I took back the Cabela's scope smile

I've heard and also learned from experience that you get what you pay for in a scope.

For $200 I got a Nikon Buckmasters. AWESOME SCOPE for the money. I'd highly recomend it.

I've never used the Cabelas scopes so I can't say anything about them.

Good decision. Glad you kept Grandpa's rifle like he had it. Plus you go to get another gun that is never bad clap
