When I was a kid we would go to our family reunion at Lake Livingston every summer. As a little kid at the time, probably between the ages of 4-12, I remember playing with frogs and splashing in the water and all the old people and the big dinner we would have and everybody brought a dish. Some 3rd cousin of mine broke her leg one year, and another year we swear we spotted an alligator sneaking through the cattails. Don't remember seeing any ducks though, probably cause it was summer. Those were the days of skinned knees, owees, chasing each other through the woods, getting dirt dirt behind my ears that mom would clean, and old ladies in polyester suits.

Nevertheless, it brings back good memories when someone names Lake Livingston.

That whole you have there don't have no water with the lake being as low as it is. I have hunted there before but I'm sure there will be 50 people there opening morning. Good luck to those who try to hunt that place! up

I have bass fished that lake enough where I know 2 things.

Too many Gators, and you better have an extra prop or 12.

Place claimed a lower unit on my Skeeter last BFL I fished up there. Think there was about 3 more getting towed in too.

Lake is narly no doubt.

gators aren't what you worry about...folks running trotlines during duck season when it's 30degrees outside and they have on a pair of speedos....they slip up on you before you know it and it's usually hard to hear the banjos over the small outboard motor. grin

You thought it was narly before you should take a ride out there now. We were in a mud boat last weekend and I was nervous in that thing. The place we usually hunt were not going to because there are way too many stumps to get into it.

I have seen quite a few gators in there myself. Just have to be careful where you are... especially if you have the dog with ya.

now here's my question, and i ask this cause we don't have gator issues in texas. if you're duck hunting, and a gator swims up to you, how long do you have to wait to "feel in danger" before you can shoot it?

There's no wait between the time the gator swims up to me and the "feel in danger" so I SHOOT!! rifle

The fear and dread of you will fall upon all the beasts of the earth and all the birds of the air, upon every creature that moves along the ground, and upon all the fish of the sea; they are given into your hands. Genesis 9:2

Well the good thing is there will be a lot of activity on this lake this year, so it will keep the gators at bay!

Alot depends on how big of a gator you are talking about as well. The big boys don't feel scared of you and will get up on you cause that is there territory. I carry a couple of slugs with me all the time but that is what you have to do when you hunt in southeast texas. The little ones will usually head out as soon as the boat comes roaring through there.

I had a duck lease down in Winnie a couple of years ago and had one bump my leg in one of the crawfish ponds I was hunting and scared the bejesus out of me! Needless to say I was cleaning my britches after that little encounter.

our lake house was in the subdivision right next to your pin... I cant tell you how many times I would throw a top water bait or a buzz bait at them and they would chase it all over the place.

went down to the dock to check my crappi poles one time and had a 7 footer laying on the dock

yessir there are some serious shallow gene pools in that neck of the woods!!! I worked a few summers building bulkheads for a contractor. and the dudes I worked with make the guy on swamp people look like Steve Jobs!!!

had a contractor tell us one time that he couldnt get a job done on time because he had to get his deer feeders filled!!!

I just got home from said spot. Not a very productive day. All I came home with was a ticket from the warden. Wrote me up for "baiting" a hole!! I tried to explain to him that I had a run in with a huge gator and had to dump my waders. He pretty much called me a liar and said "I'm a hunter too. I know what deer corn looks like!! ". You win some, you lose some.
