How many of yall have shot a bobcat with your bow?

The other morning I was out and saw a bobcat. It came up about 30 yards away and sat on its haunches watching the other deer. He had no idea I was there. I should have shot him right then and there through the front of the chest. Since I was in the deer hunting mood, I thought well I'll just wait and see what he does. (come closer or offer a broadside shot) I watched him sit there for probably 5 or 10 minutes. All the sudden he stood up and started backing into the woods. As soon as he walked behind a tree, I drew and tried to get him to stop. He did for a second, I shot and I missed right below him. Nothing but a hair on the arrow. Those bobcats are smart. Next time I will shoot as soon as I get a good chance. I keep kicking myself because I may never see another one again. Or if I do it may not be in bow range.

Oh well. frown

That sucks I would love to get one with a bow. What did you do to try stopping him? A buddy of mine makes a kissing sound and he says it will even bring them in closer. I tried it once but my mouth was to dry and it sounded like a fart.

I've shot one. It is the only mount I have ever had done. I don't see a need to really ever shoot another one though.

A couple years back I saw one a couple hundred yards away and called him in to about 20 yards and he sat down and was looking around for where the sound had come from and I was able to get an arrow in him. Awesome hunt I will never forget! And you can make a pretty loud squeek to call them in with by kinda sucking on the back of your hand. Here is a pic. of the one I got..

I made kind of a doe bleat with my mouth. Next time I will try that sucking on the back of my hand.

I sure hope I get another chance at one with my bow. That would be pretty awesome.

Did the deer seem to take any notice of the bobcat?

I have only had one opportunity to shoot one. It was at about 40 yards and looking right at me. Deer are not the only animal to "duck" an arrow. As soon as I released, the cat dropped flat on the ground and the arrow flew over his head.

I shot one last year with my bow and just recently posted some pics of the kill and mount in the photo section. It was moving as well but did stop when I made a quiet yelp. Long enough for me to pop it at least.

Thank you dear Lord for equipping me with incisors.

A guy I hunt with had a large tom sit in front of him at 30 yards last Saturday eve. He didn't even attempt to draw. I gave him a swift kick in the butt for that.

A bad day hunting is better than a good day doing anything else.

I shot my first bobcat with my bow. It was really a treat, and I had a great plan to have it mounted. That was until the taxidermist was never heard from again... Sad, but I have seen many more since then, just haven't pulled the string... Good luck to everyone on getting one, they are really a beautiful animal

Sorry for the luck. Keep trying sooner or later another will be along. I have only shot one and he was at 12 yds and a nice coyote at about 37 yds. Don't give up and hang in there.
