Ive been bowhunting the last 4-5 years, and never even draw on an animal. Ive always switch back to the rifle opening weekend. Well this year I decided I wanted to kill something with my bow and I was lucky enough to connect.

This doe came out acting real spooky, so I watched her come into 12 yds or so from my tripod. She spooked and ran off a little ways and started to come back in. She was on a path to walk behind some trees and thats when I drew. As soon as my bow broke over, all I saw was her face sticking out from behind the tree staring at me. Once again she spooked and hopped off a couple times and stopped to take another look. Thats when I let it fly. She was at 16 yards and quartering away. I lost sight of her as she ran off at about 50 yards or so. I waited thirty minutes and retreived my arrow. The arrow was covered in guts and the mind games started, I THOUGHT I made a good shot. I followed the blood trail about 10 yards and finally found good lung blood, and it didnt stop. I recovered her about 75 yards away from the original shot. Apparently I clipped her in the guts because she was quartering away, but still got one of her lungs pretty good.

All in all it was a very satisfying feeling to finally get a bow kill and after I bag a monster buck with a rifle, I will most likely be back in the bowstand for good. Its already been a great season.

congrats on your first bow kill. and i bet if you shoot that monster buck with a bow it will feel ten times better than if you do with a rifle.

I have found that diversity adds balance to things. And thats why i shoot a diversity of animals. so i can bring balance to my freezer
