I need some ideas on how to build a hanger to mount a feeder to tree. Reason I cant hang the feeders is, believe it or not - the spots I need to put feeders do not have suitable limbs nor are there two trees close enought to stretch a hanging cable from one to the other. The next catch is I do not weld so whatever we come up with has to be wood - this year. Cattle and feeder pens are out for tripod feeders.
I plan on using 10 - 30 gallon metal trash cans as the corn containers. I have heard some people make a hanging pole and then strap it to the tree. I bought one of the Kenco 30 gallong straight shooters to see how they did it and it is pretty good but it is metal that is bent and welded specifically for their barrels. It was an expensive way to see the option.
Please send me any pics or plans you have. Looking forward to seeing and hearing what you have come up with. Just trying to save money and coming up with some good solutions.
Thanks as always.

I drive 2 100d nails in the tree to set the barrel on,then use a strap or dog chain to secure it to the tree. I'll try to dig up some pics.
It's still "we the people", right?

I put 2 100d nails side by side about 6"-8" apart to support the barrel, then drive another on the backside of the tree about 2' higher, set the feeder on the 2 100ds,then either use a ratchet strap or a 10-12' dog chain to wrap around the barrel and tree, I use the back nail to lock the chain to. this one is a 5 gal bucket so I used 2 60d nails and a pull strap

You might check out the bails that I build for my winch feeders that way a lid can slip on. I will stronly reccomend that if you are going to hang a feeder of any kind that you use a brake winch.

do what mightyp said. hang it low enough to fill from the ground so you dont need a winch, then get a directional unit.
