Old_Town, I will have to totally disagree with you. You've got it all wrong. It should read Storm's in Burnet, Hamilton, then Lampasas. But I will eat one in whichever of the three towns I am in. Grew up on them and would serve them for Christmas if the family would let me. Storm's Special, the only way to go.

All my life, we traveled a lot, I went to 17 different Schools, Dad was a Road Construction Superintendent, and we went all over..
Best Hamburgers were always any DQ or something close to a DQ, a DK, DP, whatever... Later, a Whataburger, or whatever was the most convenient, easy on, easy off.. clean bathroom.
BBQ, now that's where you went looking for the abandoned Service Stations, with smoke pourin out the whole building, with an old Black man with gray hair cooking... always the most excellent.
Same for Mexican Food. always the little cafe or some old abandoned store front, fat mamacitas in the kitchen, nieces and granddaughters serving..keywords to look for.. "Menudo-Todos Los Dias".. Same for Barbacoa de cabeza ... "Tacos al Carbon"..
The best indicator was during breakfast or lunch time.. big bunches of pickups and service trucks out front with ladders, tools, acetylene and oxygen tanks on them... that was the where they served the good food, or the place that had sexy waitresses who would flirt with us working class stiffs..

You've got it figgured out Dirty Don. There was no way my ole' daddy would pass up a barbeque place such as the one you described. He scoured the sides of the highway looking for just such places.
And as for Mexican Food, a friend stated the other day, "If the waitress comes to the table and asked what you want to drink in English... you are in the wrong place!"

I've been meaning to try that place on 1187. Now I know I should. Been to Mary's a hundred times too, but never for the burgers.

I somewhat know the guys at Twisted Root, was one of their first customers. I like the burgers there. I think they do the ole breadcrumbs in the meat trick.

Kind of surprised Angry Dog is on the list.

Wonder how they rate em. Like a 1-10 list and then compile the results or something I guess.

Snuffer's does have excellent burgers. I saw a place in Dallas this weekend. It was a little hole in the wall downtown by dealey plaza. Anyone familiar with it? Of course I can't remember the name of it.

I've been to the Roadhouse in Bastrop and hands down...that jalapeno cream cheese burger was worth the wait! I've also been to Mel's cafe in Tomball, another great burger worth the wait.

J G's burgers on Greenville Ave. just north of Forest Ln. in Dallas on the west side of the street. Tons of old junk on the walls to look at while you wait also.

Anyone ever try Denton County Independent Hamburger Co?

The one on the square is the best, IMHO.

Its different, but delicious.
