Wait for the first freeze, that will sour up the acorns and then you can hunt your feeders...

Stop relying on feeders. Big bucks rarely come to feeders in daytime anyway. Ever heard of a record buck being shot over a feeder? Probably not. Get out and scout. Find trails leading to and from bedding and feeding areas.

My pictures of mature bucks are consistently 30 mins before sun up and 30 mins after sun down. Once that rut kicks in they will not be as smart with their movements. The feeders are only good for keeping the does around so that those mature bucks will frequent your area...

Stop relying on feeders. Big bucks rarely come to feeders in daytime anyway. Ever heard of a record buck being shot over a feeder? Probably not. Get out and scout. Find trails leading to and from bedding and feeding areas. Had this exact conversation with a co-worker today at lunch. Nowdays, most hunters don't know what to do if deer don't come to their feeder. Deer are almost (ALMOST!) never completely nocturnal. They will get up in the early evening, move around, loosen up, potty, etc and then stage up somewhere before they begin their "nocturnal" feeding. Usually, they do it around midday too but most hunters are either in camp or in their box. You just have to know where they do these things and set up on them. You will NEVER learn that sitting in a box or tripod all day. I usually spend opening weekend "hunting" with binoculars and a video camera. Once I find the deer I'm after and pattern him, the game is on. But, I realize spot and stalk hunting is not always an option on some leases so you just have to do what you can. I much prefer spending the day laying on the ground in the shade on a ridge top with my binoculars over sitting in a box playing video games on my phone.
Practice doesn’t make perfect. Practice makes permanent.
