Hunted Whitney last evening and this morning only saw one 6pt and one doe last night, One large doe this morning and she was out of range. It appears to me that the rut has not begun, did find a few rubs and scraps. The biggest problem this morning was the two bird hunters who set up 200yds from me!!!! but I guess that's part of hunting this kind of land. Any comments on the rut? I was in the B4 section.

Well yes thats the problem with hunting public lands however the deer are used to it but hard to hunt for the Mature bucks! Rut wont be on till at least Nov. I have seen some bucks paring up aready but does wont be receptive. I shot my 14pt opening morning after a doe. NOT RUT but following her.

Hunted last weekend saw a good 12 inch spike but out of range. Sunday had a wide 8 point come to moch scrape, but he knew somthing was wrong and headed back to the thick stuff. Never had a clean shot. My normal property is packed cant find a place to park at 6:30 am. Wish the newbee's would find another spot.

That is the draw back of hunting public land.
