I run a Honda Rubicon.

Had problems with the speed sensor for the first year or so untill they figured out what it was.

Thats the only negative I can really think of.

In my opinion Honda has the best automatic transmission on the market by far!!!!!

Yamaha grizzly 660. Great machine that is bullet proof and a blast to ride.

Cons- can't think of any right now.

I had a Polaris 330 ATP, coldest natured, hardest starting engine I have ever owned. Sold it to buy a Yamaha Rhino. I have owned Yamaha outboards, scooters and now the Rhino and never had a problem with any of them.

I have a Honda Rancher 420 and wouldnt trade it for anything. I would get the IRS though if your going to be mudding at the atv parks also. I also bought one of the new 2011 John Deere Gators 825i and it is a pretty impressive machine as well. Just thought I would mention the new gator and the toughness just in case anyone has been looking to buy one.

I got a Honda Rancher 420 4x4 also and it a good machine, but then all I've own are Honda's so I don't know about the others. I can say I really like the fuel injected models over the carb models. My 420 has never failed to start on the first push of the button. Everybody has thier own preference, but they all need the same thing in common, good care and maintanence! Good luck on which one to buy. Honda gitcha one!

I agree when you say scratch Polaris off the list. In fact, it's the only brand that I wouldn't consider buying. At one time, the quality of Polaris products was so bad, the company wouldn't offer an extended warranty on their ATV's. Dealer's were forced to offer buyers third-party warranties to cover for it.

While I'm not one to buy an extended warranty, they do provide some evidence that the manufacturer believes their product will last. And likewise, not offering one says just the opposite.

Artic Cat on the other hand is one of the snowmobile makers that appears to have been very successful in building some very reliable ATV's. But then, perhaps much of this comes from the Suzuki-made engines that go into them.

I own both a '92 Honda TRX 300 and a little '97 Kawasaki Bayou 220. I've used them both for some hard work and both have performed equally well.

I will add that they don't offer as smooth a ride as others, unless they have changed the suspension in the last couple of years.

2009 Yamaha Grizzly 450

Pros:

Independent, adjustable rear suspsension.

Best automatic in the business - Yamaha CVT blows the rest away, don't doubt it till you've tried it.

Best in class 4 wheel engine breaking.

Push button 4wd, push button locking differential - takes an extra second to engage vs some of the automated systems, but being a push button you control it. Differential won't unlock when you don't want it to like climbing a steep grade, mudding, etc.

Comes w/ a pull starter. It's a pain to pull start, but I would rather pull start than walk when a dead battery leaves you stranded. Never happened on the 450 Grizzly - have used it on my 400 Kodiak. You can't pull start a fuel injected bike.

Has a low range - really useful for pulling heavy trailers, spinning big tires in thick mud or slow climbing up or descending steep hills.

Very reliable motor w/ adequate power - my 450 Grizzly runs about 53mph on hard packed straight trail at my lease.

43" wide - gets through tight trails/woods w/ ease.

Pretty decent full sized (check the size compared to the competition) Maxxis tires from the factory - no they are not what you want if you are determined to play in every mud hole, but they aren't bad for factory tires on a hunting ATV.

Sealed back brake in the rear differential housing - works great, completely sealed, doesn't squeal or wear excessivly in mud and sand.

1300 pound tow rating, comes from the factory w/ 2" receiver for standard 2" receiver hitches.

Has true dry storage on the right front fender, plus another storage area under the seat.

12v power outlet for spot lights, gps, cell phone charger, etc.

Liquid cooled.

Cons:

Motor is strong enough for intended use, if you want to play in the mud pits w/ some big tires you will have to do some clutch work to be able to spin them properly. Stock sized wheels or slightly larger will work great as it comes from the factory. I don't deliberately drive in to waist deep mud, so it's not an issue for me.

Carbuerator - it works pretty darn good, very reliable, but you need to use the choke when it's cold, etc.

The TRX300 is the ATV that made Honda's reputation as the top ATV you can buy. I have a couple of buddies that still have theirs also, still running strong. Shame the new Honda stuff isn't as innovative and reliable as those bikes were in their day!

I am biased to Honda as i worked at a honda dealership for 13 years. But it really depends on what you plan on using it for. If you plan on hitting all the mudholes you can find, you can buy just about any atv because you should plan on servicing it very often. If you are looking for something to get you from point A to B with reliability, Honda is the way to go. Honda has the best automatic transmission if you plan on purchasing one with auto tranny. It is a completely sealed unit and you do not have to worry about belts getting wet and slipping, etc.
My next choice would be Yamaha as i like the grizzly lineup also. I have worked for an independent dealer also and was around other makes and models but for me, the Honda and Yamaha quality is better. Just my .02 cents.

Yep, and that's why I'll run this until parts are no longer available.

never had anything but a Honda. Starting with the 85 Big Red that was still running like a champ when we sold it a couple of years ago to the 2003 Rincon and 2003 450ES we still have, just see no reason to switch from something we KNOW we've had great luck with. My boss has nothing but Polaris and swears they are great. Might be, just seems that his are in the shop about once a year for repairs of some sort, while the extent of the work on our 2003 models is a new battery every 3 or 4 years.

ATV's are great and all, but very overpriced in Texas due to the high demand. Go with a mini-truck.

Engine-660cc and 4x4

Easy to work on.

Many parts are found at NAPA.

Truck bed for hauling large amounts of corn, ladders, hunting supplies etc...

Quiter than an atv, and often more reliable.

Covered cab w/ heater which is great on cold mornings or when its raining.

Can go anyplace an ATV go.

Fun as hell to drive and similarly priced to a nice quad.
