I was just wondering if anybody else has noticed or had the problem of hogs starting to run more than they used to. Several years ago hogs seemed to not run so much. We were huntin this weekend and 3 different hogs hit the Red River like it wasnt nothing and one dog chased a hog over 3 miles into Texas. And one hunt last year the dogs chased a hog for a total of 7 miles before he finally bayed up long enough to get bulldogs on him. It seems like over the last few years hogs are running farther and not not wantin to sit around and fight the dogs as much as they used to.

if more inexperienced dog runners are out there chasing all/any hogs in an area, the hogs will get keen to it and change their patterns and not get caught.

Yea after a few times being dogged they get smart.Always liked semi rough dogs.

Thats probably the problem, ppl going going out and dogging them with dogs that just aren't that good so they get away and learn thats its better to run than try to fight. Semi-Rough dogs can be a double edged sword. I got one that is rough so I hunt him with a muzzle(he still catches hogs through it sometimes) and he's good at stopping hogs, but sometimes he is the reason hogs break and run

Never had a problem with semi rough,hate to see a grown dog baying a 60 lb. hog.Team worrk with the dogs works also.I ran three only and then led my catch dog..Seems these guys that run alot of dogs at one time was when we got running hogs.

Yeah I see it all the time on youtube, guys running 7+ "bay dogs" on hogs. Half the time you cant see the hog for all the dogs piled on top of it

idk guys, we had 5-7 strike dogs the last dozen or so times ive gone hunting..... We had the hog bayed up within a cpl hundred yards each time..... maybe its yalls dogs that suck and not everyone else ruining it for u.

Are you sure they are not switching tracks? I have seen dogs that where professionals at it. Leave out on a deer and switch to what ever they are supposed to be running and never make a loose on the track. Leave a lot of dog men standing around talking about how that sucker sure did run and the hole time it only run a couple hundred yards. The rest of it was a deer or fox race.

lol naw I know how hog doggers like to brag about their dogs and claim they're the best(when usually they aint that good), but I would put ours against any out there. Anybody is welcome to come hunt with us sometime. We got a gyp that you could turn loose in the sahara desert and she'll be gone until she finds a hog no matter how far she has to go.

Yeah Im positive. Most of the time the they will be bayed up good until the other dogs get there and then it breaks. They dont trash on deer, but I have seen them bay a hog it break and a mile later(without ever seeming to drop the track) be baying a coyote. In case your wondering how weird that is, they have actually done this about 4 times, bayed up a coyote. Idk how they manage it

Doubt that very seriously.I never ran my dogs with a bunch of dogs running every where.Ran dogs for 13 years and learnt something different each time.

Yea Brandon if we had hogs eating outta creep feeders we could catch them with their nose in the trough.

lol yeah I sure wish I could turn my dogs loose within a couple hundred yards of hogs everytime. Must be nice

it has worked out lately lol!!! not sayin the first place we turn em out they strike, but we just walk or drive along the creek real slow, then they bay up. The hogs just havent beeen running. Not sayin i havent had to trek over a mile before, just not lately lol.... and i kinda like it that way haha.

never been, when the dogs get them how do y'all kill them knives, long guns, or handguns?

We tie them up with rope. People do it different. Some prefer to kill them, we prefer to catch them alive, and sell

Where are you at? I would like a chance to go hog hunting with dogs. I have run hounds for 20 years but never on hogs. Well there was that one time......LOL but it wast what was intended.

We kill em...with a knife usually
