I have always shot from elevated stands - either hang on (or ladder) stands in East Texas or elevated tripods in mesquite thickets in West Texas. This year for the first time in West Texas, I shot from a pop up blind. I shot a doe through the screen that all of these blinds come with. I shot a little back, recovered the doe, but I was not happy about missing my target and shooting a little far back.

My question for those of you who have experience shooting in these things - do you think it is a good idea to shoot through the screen, or do you raise the screen up and shoot through the open hole? I am really nervous about shooting through that screen again, but then again it sure does a great job in concealing you while in the blind.

I shoot without the mesh part. I just don't like chancing the shot

I don't like shooting throught the mesh either, I had a hard time last year lining everything up when it was low light early morning or late evening, although I did kill some deer that way. This year, I put my pop up out a month before season and spray painted the flap or hole that I was gonna shoot through with black spray paint, that way, when I hunt there, the deer and hogs are used to the black hole in the tent. So far this season, it has worked well. They haven't been spooked from it.

I would never shoot through mesh.. anything that can deflect an arrow is not good. To me it's like hitting a leaf when hunting out of a tree.

I shoot through the mesh any time I am in a pop up. Just don't use a mechanical broadhead through the mesh. I have never had a problem with shooting through it and it sure does help with the early season gnats and mosquitoes.

Just out of curiosity, you guys that say you won't shoot through the mesh, have you actually had trouble with shooting through the mesh or you just don't like the idea? I have not had a problem but if some of you have then I would like to know what it was so maybe I can avoid it.

I never have, but I also am one of those that will take a 50 yard shot, and anything touching my arrows will sure have an affect of arrow flight that far away. I doubt that it would do much to an arrow shooing under 25 yards.

I just don't like the idea, I have never tried it, but I shoot mech. heads also so that is another reason I don't do it.

I hunt exclusively out of pop up blinds when bow hunting. I have practiced shooting thru the mesh and it has made absolutely no difference in my accuracy. I do have a really hard time seeing good enough to shoot in low light though. Therefore, I dont use the mesh. I only open one window just enought to shot thru. Keep all the other windows shut as to not let any light in. I also dress in all black, ninja style. I have not been busted yet using this set up.

The first deer I shot at out of a pop up was a disaster. The arrow went through the side of the blind next to the window instead of out the opening! Not the mesh's fault of course. Just a reminder that where you are looking down your sites is not where the arrow is coming from. The second time, it went throught the mesh and I got the deer w/ no problem at 20 yds.
