Well I went to my stand tonight looking to take a big doe If one came out. Didn't see anything till about 10 minutes before dark. And it was a big doe. She walked strait at me so I couldn't move until she was 5 yards from my stand! She put her head down and started eating. Everything was perfect except for the biggest thing. I couldn't see my sights. I thought ok no big deal I can turn them on because they light up. I made sure the doe had her head down and I reached for the knob when she looked straight at me. bang She stared me down and jumped up and ran to about 20 yards and stopped. She looked at me for alittle bit longer and then decided I was ok. She ate and ate and I was stuck in my stand. After she ran I had her at 20 yards but i did not feel comfortable with that shot because of how dark it was. Hopefully I get her in the morning.

Nothing in this world compares to bow hunting. A rush beyond rifle. And you have to admit, it was a blast even though you didnt shoot.

I agree 100%,, the rush is the reason I bow hunt. I'm dreading getting older, I'm 61 and kringe of getting too old to bow hunt. I think I'll just fish then, I can't bring myself to gun hunt at all!

I understand you but do do not duplicate the sentement although Ive said if I was forced to pick it would be bow hunting over all of it.
There was a time I snobbed compounds and only hunted with longbow..ut i got over it! wink "Missing that buck at 18yds" had abit to do with it.
You might try handgun hunting with a open sight revlover...range of 75yds or less..(Im not refering to scoped TC Contenders and such.)
To me..its its next best thing! I took a 9pt out in Glenn Rose TX back in 91-92 season at 84 paces with a iron sighted 6.5" barrled .41 magnum Ruger New Model Black Hawk revolver. I've meet quite a few other guys that handgun hunt as well as bowhunt. From Michigan to Texas...it has its following too.
Seems that some of them feel about rifles as you do about firearms hunting. Just a idea suggestion. 2cents

I agree with Ranger Rick. My dad hunts with a long bow (no sights at all). He thinks my compount bow is nothing more than a rifle with a 30 yard range.

OK - I really can't argue with that. But I also don't go five years between kills like he does either.

Everyone looks down on the next "lower" rung on the food chain. That is why I will never say anything about crossbows - because I know that alot of traditional bow hunters look down on the archery masses that use compound bows and fancy sights and such.

Personally, I enjoy hunting with my Mathews Z7 and at times a rifle. I may even try a muzzle loader some day. I think that anything that gets us in the woods is good.

Mathews Z7 Bow for Whitetail and Hogs
Remington R-15 .223 REM for predators
I also like to "hunt" sporting clays with my Benelli SuperSport!

I had an old doe that frequented a feeder for years. She was the most paranoid deer I've ever seen. Her fawns seemed to pick up the trait as well... guess she finally died of natural causes because I never got a shot! She busted me at least once every couple of weeks...
