Also the spider bull was scored as a non-typical and was killed on public land.....not in a pen.

great bull, to all u guys that say not impressed, if u have not hunted a 1000 acre high fence dont turn ur nose up, its not a "canned" hunt. i just dont see how anyone can sit on the high horse and knock how someone hunts, as long as it is legal. last time i checked elk were not native and u could hunt anyway u want. till u been in someone elses shoes DONT JUDGE. this type attitued is what screws it all up for everyone involved in the great sport of hunting. sounds like jealousy on ur part for not being able to do it. so congrats and i hope u get the world record. i salute u if taken legally.

I'm not gonna bad mouth that elk or the guy that killed it, just because he was killed behind a high fence. Doesen't bother me one bit.

Nice elk

Elk ARE native to Texas!

And yes I have hunted high fence before and had a blast! But I still look at it differently than free range.

Awesome Bull....regardless!

Yes, elk are "native" but not classified as a GAME animal in Texas.....back about 40 years ago, they were a game animal, but were either hunted out or left Texas completely. They have slowly returned, and probably need to be protected a few years so that the herd can expand!

I won't ever knock a person b/c what they shoot, but b/c of their mannerism there isn't a whole lot of difference between managing cattle and managing elk. I know it, get to participate in it every year...no biggy. Just like a deer, they are going to wear down during the rut and need to put the weight back on in order for it to show up in an explosion in their racks, which will take a lot more feed on a per/day basis. Now the kicker in all this is take a bull (bovine) and turn him loose with 5-10 cows to tend to and check out his weight when you pen him back up....now turn that same one loose with 25-50+ cows to tend to and when you pull him back in (and you will be scratching your head wondering where the rest of him went to) & check his weight. If the genetics are there, you are going to be able to grow them, it's just a matter of how much are you going to let them run themselves down.

Not a high fence fan, never have been. But that Elk is huge!

Great big no matter how or where he was killed. As long as the hunter is fine with it that is all that matters to me. What I think is not important in the scheme of his hunting preferences. As long as he is a hunter I will support him if he did it ethically.
