I'm hoping to kill some hogs at Lake Grapevine with my stick and string this winter. Do any of you guys hunt out there? I was wondering if you have any advice on how to hunt hogs on that public land. I'm use to sitting in blinds looking over feeders to kill hogs. This public land stuff is totally new to me. I'm not sure if I should be stalking or sitting on crossings and paths. I can find tracks and scat, but I haven't seen any piggies. It is really thick out there. Any advice? Thanks guys.

First make sure you get a permit and a map of where you can hunt. Then set up on sign.. can't use bait so watch good trails

I'm good on the permits and maps, just trying to figure out if it is a good idea to stalk the hogs or just to set up and wait on them. Thanks for the input BoBo. Brother in-law, you are right, I'm always looking over my shoulder when I am out there and i always wear orange. You can't beat the fact that is so close to the house and that is free hunting land. Makes it worth putting up with the crazies IMO.

My house practically backs up on the property. Its been alright hunting till the last 2 years. They take no time to manage the property, which in some ways is alright, but now the FENCE.

Spot and stalk out there is my favorite way to hunt them. Just take is nice and slow. I usually take at least one per trip.

The permits are gone for the year correct????
I live right on the border of grapevine and southlake and have always wondered how the permit policy works.
I used to ride my MX Bike out at Marshall Creek and Always heard gun fire if I got out there really early in the fall/ winter.

For Grapevine hunting info you need to go to the Grapevine office. Anyone have any ideas on parking on the SW side? My son has a youth permit and I might try and get him out there this weekend.

Parking is pretty much gone, only authorized areas are the "hog only" area off Dunham Rd. and on 377 at the bike trail entrance every thing else is at your own risk. there is a spot we park off cleveland-gibbs.

if the permits are all gone looks like im out i didn't get one, BUT last year there was no limit on permits because someone complained about the lottery system? i don't know if the threated to sue or what but if some of us went and complained again maybe they'll open up unlimited permita again. they said they handed out something like 1200 permit but rarly did I see more than one other person out there

You have to go to the Corps of Engineers office, it's off of Hwy 26 and Fairway, between Bass Pro and the Gaylord Thanks for the tip, I'll go check it out this afternoon There's a Corps office in Lewisville with info... The office is by the golf course on, I think Mill St., not sure of name, but it's in the middle of the golf course by the lake... I'll find that one too and find out where in Lewisville I can hunt... I also know of a small airport close by which has a problem with wild hogs coming on the runway, endangering small planes on take-off and landing, so the airport owner/manager wants people with night vision and suppressors to eradicate the wild hogs at night...
