Hello All,

I am looking to purchase a shotgun for sporting clays and my research shows that a Beretta AL 391 Urika 2 is a good introduction gun.

My question is, "Which version?" Anyone here own a Beretta for this type of application?

Depends on which stock you want...the Parallel Target is a higher comb gun and it parallel doesn't slope. The Classic Sporting is going to be a regular stock that slopes.

The Teknys is just a chrome receiver and a little bit better grade of wood. Same gun really.

I personally wouldn't want a trap gun for shooting sporting clays but some guys like them? They have a higher POI...

Get which one you want.

Thanks Judd. I too am skeptical on purchasing a shotgun just for shooting clays and have been looking at a Remington 11-87 Sportsman Field. With this shotgun, I can enjoy upland hunting and clays during off season.

It just depends on how much you are going to shoot and if you don't mind the money sitting there in a gun. I have a real nice Ceasar Guerini o/u that I shoot clays with. But I found for me to switch back and forth between guns was harder than I felt like it should be so since I bought one of these to hunt with:

I have them set up identical. Matter of fact if for some reason something happened to my hunting gun I could take the synthetic apart and steal parts to get the hunting gun back operational.

I am personally not a Remington shotgun fan...I just don't like the way they feel. But if they feel good for you then that might be a better option because you would use it more.

Both of your Urika guns are the same with the exception of the finish, your clay is all black and hunting being max camo?

Did you purchase the camo version specifically because you didnt want to hunt with the all black? I am curious to know your thoughts.

Black one will rust in a wet environment and will be a lot more upkeep. A dipped gun requires a lot less work keeping it rust free from a duck hunters perspective.

I was looking for one to try and I ran across the camo one first. Thinking I would switch back and forth between it and the o/u and that didn't go to well so I just bought the same gun in black to shoot clays with. I figured having a back up wouldn't be a bad thing and I didn't really want to shoot clays with a camo gun.

I don't think it is stupid. I wouldn't want to show up at a club with a camo shotgun either! Buying two of the same was a good move as you stated using parts from one for the other is available if needed.

Do your guns have the standard or kick-off recoil system?
Is the extra $375 worth spending for the kick-off?

Maybe if you shoot hot loads all the time. My clay loads are fast 7/8oz reloads so recoil isn't an issue. I just have the factory gel tek pad. Then when you are shooting at ducks you never notice the recoil so I didn't opt for that option. I did put a C&H stock recoil reducer and a mag cap recoil reducer. I did it more for weight then i did the mercury recoil help though. Seems to smooth my swing out a bit.

I found both of mine on gunbroker...hang on you can find some deals on them. I bought my black one brand new for $745 delivered so there are some deals if you just watch and wait for a good one. The Max-4 one was used but still a great deal.

Get a Beretta 390. Much better and simpler gas system. Easier to clean and operates like a dream. I have a 390 and a 391. Unless I am goose hunting, the 391 stays in the safe.

The Beretta 391 Field gun is a great gun, I have 2 391 Sportings, 12ga & 20ga.
Very seldom shoot the 12ga anymore.
Love them 20ga's....
