I prefer the Winchester, but it's really just personal preference (Ford vs Chevy). I like the looks of the M70 better. But both are very fine rifles.
But, from reading this and a lot of other internet gun forums, the new M70's (made in South Carolina) seem to have a reputation of being very good shooters right out of the box. I know my M70 FWT in 270 shoots less than MOA, and I have made no changes to it except mounting a Leupold.

the model 700 is a nice rifle (i have one, sps stainless in .22-250)
but the model 70's are a cut above imo. ranch rifle is a model 70 stainless classic, again in .22-250.
love the model 70

I have more Remmingtons than any other perticular brand and only one Winchester model 70, I have shot a friends new model 70 made by FN and it is a great shooting gun. If looking at just those 2 guns I might lean toward the Winchester

I like the Model 70 because of control round feeding. I have 10 different Model 70s in various configurations and calibers. They all shoot great and are very accurate. I also prefer the 3 position safety on Model 70s over all other safeties.

Ruger Model 77, beats them both. I would agree with that. Havent been too impressed with the later model Remingtons and Winchesters.

My first choice is Remington due to having such good results with them for so many years. But, I've been really impressed with the new FN Winchesters built in South Carolina. I have a new 7-08 Featherweight & it is very accurate and nice handling.
If you go Winchester be sure it's an FN, SC built model.
