Can anyone give me an idea what it costs for a pronghorn mount? I am going next week, and will be looking for a mount to be done. Thanks in advance for your help.

Double D is the cheapest I have found!! Did mine last year and doing my wifes this year.
FYI do not leave blood on the cape Pronghorn hair is hollow and will absorb the blood... I found out the hard way

We charge $465, but don't just look at the price too much. Quality should be your first concern. Do your homework before you just drop off your pronghorn trophy with the cheapest guy/girl.

Do you have pictures of your work? My daughter-in-law took her's to a man yesterday that charges 450. He must live near them because she drove to take it to him after my son caped it.

Shoote5354, I hope this isn't considered hijacking your post and if so, I apologize. I am going next year and any other information that may be available about pronghorns would be much appreciated. Can you freeze them or will that hurt the hollow hairs? Are there other characteristics that we should watch out for?

Here is a quick overview for field care which applies to all game shot.
1. Do not drag the animal on the ground or it could rub off hair and cause bald spots.
2. Do not hang with rope around neck. It causes a rope burn which could show on the finished mount.
3. Keep the cape cold and dry. If at all possible freeze as soon as possible. Roll up with hair on the outside and put in plastic bag.
4. Do not cut up the back or into the brisket and leave as much skin on the animal as possible. We can cut off what we don't need. Hard to add hide onto it when it is too short.
5. Do not salt the hide/cape in the field. This prevents freezing and does nothing against bacteria. It only dries out the hide which makes it very hard for us to flesh it properly.
6. For small animals like bobcat, coyotes and such, don't make any cuts. Leave whole, wrap in bag and freeze asap.
I hope all this helped some. For more detailed info always call your taxidermist prior to the hunt.

Here is an idea. I went with a pedestal mount for my last pronghorn instead of another wall mount. I also agree with the +$450 price for top of line work. Your mileage may vary.......... Good Hunting! Bob

Taxidermist know that taking care of a hide is a must but antelope with there hallow hairs must be taking care of 10x more delicate then any other animal.

I thank everyone for replying to my post. I ended up taking him to a local man that did my son's bobcat mount. Someone on here said that if you could do a good bobcat, you could do anything, and it is a very good mount. He is doing it for $450, and it will be ready in a month.I wish I had seen the pedestal mount before I decided because I really like it. Thanks again for your help.

One question? If your taxidermist is going to do that shoulder mount in a month are you sure he is going to tan that cape up properly? I'm sorry, but we've been in this business for too long to know better that it takes several month to do a mount right with a tanned cape. You may want to check into this. Just my 10 cents worth.

Im with Billington Ranch you really need to check in to the tan he uses or the tannery he sends too. I would hate to see you spend money on that mount then in a few years have all the hair start slipping out on you. There are some sorry taxidermists out there trying to make a quick buck with out tanning there hides or doing his best work like leaving steps out.

I took a big bobcat in to him today, and asked if the hide would be properly tanned, and he told me it would be. What else would I check or ask him just to be totally sure it is done right? All of his work looks good to me. This is my first pronhorn, and I want it done right. Ya"ll have me worried now!

Good Hunting! Bob Bob: That is indeed a nice pedestal mount. Nice symmatry and good color on the throat. Good eyes. The eyelids/lashes always get me on an antelope. Good ones look like eyelashes, bad ones look like mascera...at least to me. Not a pro mind you, just an observation. Did you use a regular 3-4 ft plant stand?
