how do YOU treat for fleas? i try to keep my dogs bathed once a week, and use the treatment you put between their shoulders. seems to work decent, as my dogs are inside/outside. would probably work better if they were mostly inside. anyways, how do you treat yours?

I don't ever bathe my dogs, unless they get in to something and need it. Some dogs it's not good to give them baths that often. My dogs aren't usually outside enough to have to worry about fleas, but usually if I find one I just put that Ultra stuff from Hertz. Seems to work ok, just don't like the oil being on their back. My mom said she uses some sort of pills for her dogs.

K9 Advantix is better. If you're gunna shell out the cash, might as well get the better buy.

I ran out of Frontline on a weekend, and saw fleas on my dogs. I got some of the Sergeants at WM for around $10. It works fine for me. I only use it when I see fleas, which is around once a year, or less. I don't remember the last time I saw fleas. I check often.

I have six outside dogs, live in one of the worst areas of the state for fleas & all I do is use ortho max granules twice a year & give them ivomec once a month for heartworms. I have seen less than ten fleas in 5 years and we check all the time.

We have tried the liquid down the back with a flea collar AND frontline but still had flea problems. Now I pay $22 a month for both of my dogs and use Comfortis. Best thing that has worked for us, and it actually lasts a full month.

I use Interceptor and it prevents heartworms and controls fleas at the same time.

Owning a dog is expensive.

I like the Comfortis. But it only makes the tics a little punch drunk! You can not find a flea even after they have been with other dogs that have a lot of fleas. My dog also swims daily.

TE...Interceptor doesn't control fleas. We use Interceptor on the lab and combine it with Comfortis (flea control) until after the first freeze.

Here is the information from the Interceptor site:

Quote:
INTERCEPTOR Flavor Tabs are indicated for use in the
prevention of heartworm disease caused by Dirofilaria immitis, the control
of adult Ancylostoma caninum (hookworm), and the removal and control of
adult Toxocara canis and Toxascaris leonina (roundworms) and Trichuris
vulpis (whipworm) infections in dogs and in puppies four weeks of age or
greater and two pounds body weight or greater.

Momma's dogs are on Sentinnel which is a combination flea/hearworm med but a little more expensive than the Interceptor/Comfortis combo.

X2 on the interceptor not controling fleas. Tried that route and learned the advantics and iverhart max work the best.

K9 Advantix as well. Used to use it for my dogs, then i just really made sure my area was free of fleas and ticks, when on a rampage. I haven't had to use anything for a few years and never a flea or a tick on my pups.

I know that some areas are hard if not impossible to control though, so you just gotta accept keepin the dogs on something.
