I have a fishing buddy that races pidgeons, he loose a few every year to dove hunters in general. Also a pidgeon is a pidgeon wheather he races are not...congrats on the two bands...

Mourning dove, white wing dove, ring neck dove, rock dove, pigeon, they all eat the same. You want um? Keep um on your side of the fence! And I do hunt deer so any exotics, or ferrel hogs, dogs, cats whatever, keep them on you property too if you want them alive.

You don't need to know the difference between a dove and a pigeon because pigeon are legal to shoot. However you would need to know the difference between your average pigeon and a racing pigeon and the only way to tell is by the bands. Can you pick out a banded pigeon while flying??

bottom line....don't race pigeons during dove season
