If you don't know a dove from a racing homer, you don't need to be toting a gun. Period! I sure wouldn't post my lack of game identification on a hunting forum. Lot's of time and MONEY are spent on them. Hope you don't deer hunt.

Mourning dove, white wing dove, ring neck dove, rock dove, pigeon, they all eat the same. You want um? Keep um on your side of the fence! And I do hunt deer so any exotics, or ferrel hogs, dogs, cats whatever, keep them on you property too if you want them alive.

You don't need to know the difference between a dove and a pigeon because pigeon are legal to shoot. However you would need to know the difference between your average pigeon and a racing pigeon and the only way to tell is by the bands. Can you pick out a banded pigeon while flying??

bottom line....don't race pigeons during dove season

X2. If I feel like shooting, or if I catch one in my trap, (use them regularly for dog training) a pigeon is a pigeon, IS A PIGEON. Take that bulltrash somewhere else broseph.

but I have decided my answer should be:

Holy crap, I just googled racing pigeons for sale, some cost over $200 each, for a pigeon, really? I think Beaver just restored a bit of sanity to an insane world with one shot.
