My 22-250 doesn't like reloads that I have tried. Most that I have tried will not allow the firing pin to hit. Is this a headspacing issue?

p.s. I don't reload.

First thing I would do is compare how far in your primer is seating compared to a factory load. If that is not the issue then I would see what your overall case length is, as this could also cause issues you are describing.

I would also recommend taking your gun to a gunsmith so they can test the headspace and make sure it is in spec. Its most likely the reloads though.

If it shoots factory fine every time, it's the reloads. Case length and primer seating depths are the places to look. Primer seating depth you can probably eyeball if it's enough to avoid the firing pin.

This could be evidence of a short firing pin, too, but unlikely if it never has a problem with factory ammo.

Since you don't reload, you need to get more info about the reloads you're using. Are the cases new, once-fired, fired from your gun first, full-length sized? How old is the gun?

It would be a good idea to figure out the problem anyway. Reloading rounds to work in a gun that isn't functioning to factory spec for unknown reasons is asking for trouble imo.

Sounds like a headspace issue to me. Savages are easy to replace barrel on and you may have one that someone replaced and did not headspace properly. Is it a factory barrel? You can tell if it has SAVAGE stamped on it. Also, check to see if the barrel nut is tight, the barrel and/or nut may be loose enough to have caused a headspace issue. I would definently have it checked for wasting a lot of time trying to reload for it.

It is the factory barrel. I'm not sure about checking the torque on the barrel. I'll have it checked out.
Thanks.

BigDad raises a good point. There are some Savage people who do not tighten to factory spec on purpose.
