Alot of people feed alfalfa bails. High in protein. Most people and myself find that deer will tear it up, but some people have mixed reviews/experiences.

I used to put out bales of alfalfa. In some years they would eat it and some years they wouldn't. Probably related to the other forage crops. One year I left a bale in the back of my pickup. When I got back there was a pretty good size buck eying that bale and trying to decide if it was worth the risk. He was young so I only gave him something to think about.

We have fed it in duval co and the deer will not touch it as far as eating, however they did spread it out and bed down in it as did the rabits and pigs. Never had a good result feeding it myself, but have seen deer go ape poo over it on trail cam pics at other peoples places.

We use at our place in the Hill Country and the whitetails and exotics can't get enough of it.

It's like crack for Axis deer.

Thanks for all the response. I was thinking of putting out bales of the hay. I don't think our acorn crops that great this year.
Trying to fatten them up on something besides corn.

If you don't want bales....you might look at CHAFFEHAYE! Tad bit expensive...but much more convenient!

I tried the chaffehaye last year, the owner of the feedstore I use gave me a few samples. The deer let it mold olver and would not touch it.

Just saying!

cows and horses will tear up well built feeder pens to get to alfalfa!!!

Deer love mistletoe and it's free! I round up as much as I can the weekend before season and throw it in the pen.

Mistletoe will only work durning the rut. They don't kiss any other time.
