What do you hunt / fish to keep the fridge filled with meat year round? when do you hunt them?
I now have some dove and need to get out and get some fish.

Usually try to keep the deep freeze stocked full of venison until the next season. I prefer that meat to any other. There is usually some wild pork in there too from the hogs i occasionally shoot, along with plenty of yellow/channel cats, whites/hybrids, and the occasional crappie. My girlfriends family keeps us stocked up with plenty of beef straight from their farm, and all kinds of canned stuff (fruit, vegetables, and other misc stuff). Guess you can say we pretty much live off the land.

Keep self-killed and processed buffalo meat in the freezer year-round to use instead of beef (unless we're cooking steaks).....deer and hogs for sausage.....shrimp from Louisiana.....pork tenderloins and chicken from H.E.B. Also have some Oryx in there right now.....

I put a couple deer in the freezer prepped several ways...steak, jalapeno/cheese sausage, hamburger with bacon. Usually a few turkeys, some quail, a hog. Then lots and lots of redfish, trout, amberjack, grouper, snapper and a little shark.

Don't buy beef. Or much pork for that matter. Venison is my red meat of choice and I'll catch my own fish quite often too.

3-4 deer a year. Process my own except grind of burger. Hope to get a good grinder this year and do my own. I cut jerky out of hind quarters, save backstrap for chicken fry or stew meat, and rest is grind for hamburger meat. My whole family eats deer meat so it goes quick. Bait a hole and stock freezer with catfish filets. Okra, salsa, Corn on cob, pickled jalapeno's,jalapeno jelly, plum jelly from garden. Wild hog or two when I kill one and it is convenient to clean. Ribeye from local butcher when we want a good steak 1 1/2- 2" med rare. Yes I'm not skinny.

Just got them, they will bring 500 pounds of meat in a few months.
The 4H gives the kids around here starter pigs to train them. When they get use to the routine they give them the show pigs and give the starters away.

with the way the world/economy is going, i'd rather kill, catch, raise or grow it myself. i raise poultry for meat and eggs, was pretty much at ease when the egg recall came out. made a few extra bucks off extra egg sales too.

I think deer meet taste like poop. Shot a cow elk offered on here and hadnt had to buy any beef since april. We eat on it about four nights a week and have hardly put a dent in it.

Never a shortage of catfish in my freezer. Try to keep a bit of venison and wild hog in there too if I'm lucky enough. Smoked sausage, summer sausage, hamburger, backstrap, stew meat, and chili meat. I have a bit of venision left from last season and will probably make some slim jims here in the next few weeks. Great to take to the lease or in the boat.

We usually butcher 1 calf a year and have plenty of meat to last for awhile. I usually trap a few hogs throughout the year and have plenty of quarters to throw on the smoker. Deer are few and far between out here so when I actually get one it gets eaten up right away.

Try to keep the freezer stocked with venison, ducks, rabbits and gator during the hunting season and then work on the bass, crappie and catfish during the spring. Wish we had a few hogs on our lease for chops and sausage, but actually glad we don't have 'em yet; but heard we got a few trying to move in.
