i'm thinking about getting the rib a shotgun to duck hunt with. I know some of you frequently take women hunting so i'm curious as to what gun suits them best? Is a 12 guage too much? will a 20 guage be as effective for duck hunting?

any input would be great guys.

If you have the $$$ i'd say the Xtrema 2 w/ KO is a good choice. If not, i'd go w/ the 20ga

We dont mind re-hashing topics here, trust me.

A semi auto 12ga will often kick about the same or sometimes less than a 20ga pump or O/U. So if you are going with a pump or O/U I'd look at a 20ga...but in a semiauto a 12ga would be fine. Also you have a lot more flexibility with the 12ga regarding load selection.

good info so far. Can anyone recommend one that their wife currently uses? If I'm dropping a good chunk of change and she doesn't like it then i want to be able to use it myself. i think that would rule out a 20ga.

True, as long as we are talking gas operated. Inertia guns always kick harder than gas.

I bought my wife a Berreta 930. Good gun wish I could get teh stock taken down a little but it is a synthetic. I am going to take it to a good gun shop and see what they recoomend on that route, and am going to have it dipped as well.

Have her throw several makes/models up to her shoulder. Some shotguns have literally zero recoil, but if it doesn't fit, she'll hate it.

I've got a Yildiz MX Clays in .12 ga. O/U and absolutely love it. It's heavier than there other models, so recoil is a zero issue. And I'm not a very big girl either. 5'8 114 lbs.

Deckhand uses a 16GA and does not complain to much about the gun. He does complain, but he's old FART! bolt

My wife shoots a Browning Gold Hunter 20ga (ladies).

hunting she's good for 2 boxes

skeet-- it starts getting "heavy" after 1 round or so.

when my oldest son was 9-10 he shot it lights out. has moved on to 12ga.

You live in Houston, so what ever gun you get go to Briley and have them fit it to your wife. Woman just arent built like men, and all guns are made for men. Prolly need alot of casting done, and comb work for her to shoot it right and be comfertable with shooting.

Well yeah it's common knowledge in most gases gas has less felt recoil than inertia but inertia is still going to kick way less than an O/U or pump and that was the point worth knowing in this case.

Marc while that def. makes sense, and is what I have always believed. My Franchi I-12 kicks harder than my 807 Super Mag. For Sure.

I don't know what an 807 Super Mag is but I'm thinking weight has something to do with it. If you have a 10 lb gun vs a 7 lb gun weight will play a huge part in recoil.

Mine is using a Benelli Montefeltro, and she prefers the 12 gauge... very little recoil difference

Mine uses extrema 2 with KO and loves it. I have a pump 20 gauge but she says it kicks to hard.
