Maybe not the best strategy, but I sleep.

From most of my stands, I can see for miles, so there's almost always something going on to watch. That's also the reason I carry high quality optics. You can learn a lot by watching deer from a half mile away as they go about their business undisturbed.

Silver spurs and gold tequila
keep me hanging on.
Pretty girls and old cantinas
give me shelter from the storm.

Next time somebody asks me why we don't have any stands on our lease, I'm going to show them this post.

Practice doesn’t make perfect.
Practice makes permanent.

X2. Only while hog hunting at night though. Most of the time I wake up, but I've seen hogs at the feeder on game cam pics that snuck in and out while I was snoozing just 40 yards away.

I read the Texas Outdoor Annual several times per season so I can answer THF questions.

But most days I snooze 5 - 10 min wake up look for deer and repeat until I see something to shoot.

If I'm well rested and bored I'll glass the hill side across the fence.

Look at sport scores, read the news, answer the phone and hear about the kids hitting the emergency fire button on the alarm system and having the truck so up. Stuff like that.

Never been able to sleep in a deer stand, believe me I've tried it a few times because of the night before...I also read, and take pictures of wildlife...
