Henryseale very good advice.

There are several places that rent handguns, I am not sure where you are at, Bullet Trap in Plano has a lot of pistols for rental resonably priced for renting, which is a good way to try different guns to see what you each like best.

The purpose we want to start getting into handguns is we enjoy shooting them. We want a gun that can be used for self defense, but also can be shot comfortably at targets or in my case some hunting. Our plan is home defense might be in the car, but will not be carried on us. We have considered CHL but not sure as we have no interest in carrying on us. We have been to the range and shot my friends guns, we have shot his guns on our farm. We have been searching on the internet and talking to people with knowledge about different guns. We plan on shooting a lot because we enjoy it. We want to be as familiar as possible before we do anything. I have had long guns in my hands as long as I could walk and we respect guns a lot. I know many of you are knowledgeable and thought you would be a good resource and as it turns out I was right. I have read some very good information and I appreciate it. Any additional comments are welcomed.
Thanks
Britt

I grew up with a .38 spl so that will get my vote. Academy has a little Rossi snub nose for like 225. Easy to clean, take apart and won't jam. Yeah, yeah it's not American made.....but whatever.
