Academy is now offering 40 pound bags of deer corn for $3.99 throughout the state. Thankfully, there is a limit of 10 bags per customer, if you can find a store that has some.

I also checked with a local Wal-Mart and was told they'll match the price if you bring the ad from the Academy website or elsewhere.

Thanks for posting that. Tractor Supply in Sweetwater was $6.79 per 50 lbs last Saturday. Bought 7 bags and when I got to the lease the guy had loaded 8 bags, so I came out ahead.

You may run into a pushback at your local Wal-Mart when calling them on their price guarantee. You'll need to take the newspaper/mail ad from Academy that shows the $3.99 sale price. You may also need to get manager approval since the guarantee usually applies to "same brand" items. That's what I did to get the same price on six bags at my local Wal-Mart.

Does any know for sure that these prices are being driven by this being an above average year for corn production? Or, is it just a matter of retailers going after one another?

The feed stores have to be taking a beating right now. Every year late in the season when Wal-Mart stops stocking corn, the feed store prices ALWAYS increase.

Saw it for $4.99 at the Beaumont Gander Mountain earlier today - much better than last year's prices.

Btw, how much is Apple Corn running for in the Hill Country these days?

You'll have to ask the deer that one. (Sorry, I couldn't resist)

I've found nothing wrong with corn that I've purchased at Academy in the past. But as noted earlier, I used the Academy newspaper ad to get the same price on another brand of corn (40 lb bags) being sold at a local Wal-Mart.

The Academy corn is pretty clean. Not as clean as the Jacoby Feeds corn we get in the hill country. But it is not so dirty that it will stop up a feeder.
