How can I lock my tripod. People on my lease are hunting my tripod when I am not there and was wondering how to keep them out.... Rules are no hunting anyone's stand.

I would put a big board over the ladder like they do them on displays at academy and bass pro. Cut one out that covers up all of the steps and thread a chain through it that will lock it down.

Confront them. I would want to be able to trust the guys on my deer lease...

Drill some holes through a flat board and chain it the the legs of it. Like they do at Academy to keep people off. Or drill a hole throught he seat back and chair part and cable lock it.

Are most leases hunt your own stand and not others? I have been on both types. pros and cons either way...

Our rule is you can't hunt a person's stand until they have had a chance to hunt it first. So if someone misses opening weekend, you can't climb up in it and shoot their big 10 they've been seeing all September and October.
After that, you have first claim to your stand, and if you don't hunt it, someone else can. Most people tend to stick to their own stand for the most part, except for a couple stands that have been proven to see a lot of deer.

You could drill a hole in the center of your seat and put a pointed pin through it with a lock on the bottom. Then they climb up and have to think long and hard about how are they going to sit in it. If they are not supposed to be there then they should get the message.
I would confront them too.

Do you have any proof that anyone is hunting your stand, such as physical evidence? If you do then you need to document that proof, (pictures are the best) or witnesses even better.
You have rules, so someone made those rules and that person should be the lease manager.
Confront the lease manager, and ask him what the deal is, and if that rule only applies to certain people or everyone! You and the others having signed a lease agreement have done just that, and that is agreed to follow the rules. You shouldn't have to do anything to your stand to prevent anyone from using it because it's a rule violation, and the lease manager has to be the enforcer.
Let him handle it, and if it continues then I think you need to start looking for another lease!

Once i learned that i didn't "NEED" to kill something, and that if i did kill something all the fun stopped and work began, i was a much better hunter.

Most of ours have trap doors. If yours does then just put a lock on it. One the trigger / cable locks would work well. Some people on our lease have stands that they put up but all of our stands are pretty much open. We have about 10 and normally 50% or less attendance so it is really not a problem. Opening w/e can get a little crowded but we normally just draw straws.

my tripod is prolly not strong enough for most people on our lease. or they are too old to get up in it. if i didnt want anyone to hunt it, i have a swivel chair (bass boat) that I can pull out of the floor and presto...no seat

WAY TO SOLVE PROBLEM:
1. Place game camera in location to catch person who is in your stand.
2. After you have absolute proof, confront him infront of all the members of lease and then break both his legs.(important that you do it infront of every one , so that others will be discouraged about using your stand in the future)
3. Problem solved, because he cant climb a tree stand with broken legs.

I like the idea of placing a game camera facing it. If you have a written rule against hunting each other's stand and you can get proof that is is one of your members rather than a poacher, ask the lease manager to have them removed from the lease or change the rules so you can hunt everyone elses stand too. But if you put a cheap game camera on it and let everyone on the lease know you have placed it there to catch a poacher, it should stop the problem. Maybe even fib a little bit and say you put a couple more less obvious hidden game cameras in the area of the stand to try and catch the same poacher. With that word out it should help stop them from ground hunting your area too.

put a pop-up blind directly under the tripod. Maybe the person will get the hint that you plan to hunt there regardless.

Leave a hiden trail camera pointing your tripod.  And then confront them when you have the evidence.

I agree with everyone saying to confront everyone on it, I also like the idea of letting everyone know that you have placed random gamecams out to catch a "poacher"

Your talking apples and oranges with that analogy because this is a deer lease with rules and not a crime. If you confront the lease manager and tell him that he has a memeber breaking the rules and that if they aren't enforced, then it should be OK for everyone then and just throw out that rule. But since this isn't the way things in our society actually are, then what other rules on a deer lease would you rather not follow? Either abide by the written rules or ditch them, it's just that simple or go look for another lease, no need for a cop! Make a sign that says "WARNING game camera in use!"

Get a padded boat seat (Academy 20 to 25 bucks)and a set of 4 bolts with 4 wing nuts. When you get to the lease, install your seat on the tripod. When you leave remove the seat. Problem solved.
I had the same problem on our lease. I don't think anyone will sit in your stand without a seat. If so, not for very long.

I would go with the plywood blocking the steps
or
grease the last step at the top so when they grab ahold....
Another thought, could it maybe be someone other than a paying hunter.... ie owner/owners familiy or someone trespassing? I would definately bring it up tho
I'd ask him if he's pregnant. He missed a s__tload of periods. I'll take "things that look like a uterus" for $200 Alex.
