Wondering if anyone on here can help me. I picked up a Winchester .70 in .270 yesterday. Just wanting to know the approx. age?
Serial number is in the 800,000's I believe. Has wood stock with engraving/checkiering, hindged floorplate, and has a red "W" on the bottom of the grip. It is also drilled for iron sights.
Can anyone tell me what type of m70 I have? And the approx. age?

You have an early, post 64. Made in the mid '60's.

Not a pre 64. I would say 1965 to 1967 depending on where the actual S/N falls in the 800K range.
1965 757,181 818,500 1966 818,501 855,860 1967 855,861 873,694
Just Google "winchester model 70 date of manufacture" and you will find more info that you ever wanted to know about the Model 70

Proofhouse.com
Pre '64 have external extractor (controlled feed like Mauser M98).
She was only a whiskey maker, but he loved her still.
