How to hunt for Mule deer? I was out on my buddies property in the panhandle and we saw 4 mule deer on the adjacent property. How do you hunt them? Ive heard they dont like feeders, only water, which his land has alot of. But no tracks from them around the lake. Any info?

They come to our feeders, but they love eating our Alfalfa hay even more! You might try throwing out a few bales to see if they will eat it.

I've shot one mulie that was at a feeder. Had him on camera and when it was legal I busted him.

I've seen a few Mulie does come into feeders, but as you already know, they are mostly grazers. If you can locate pinch points or known travel area near good graze or water, you can maybe get lucky. The spot and stalk option above works also, but I bow hunt and setting up for an ambush works much better for me. Good luck.

Kinda like a yucca, but soft and grows along the hillsides. Mule deer love it. We cut it and place in pens on top of mesas/hills

Sotol? Like the thin leafed Yucca? I didn't think anything would eat that

Yeah they chow down on it. They get water out of it also, but they seems to like the taste, as far as a plant goes.

Where we hunt in NM, some of the locals have corn feeders up and running and they will have 30 deer around them at a time but once the season starts they might have 3. You can't bait deer there so they don't hunt them. They will eat the sotol bushes, I've watched them do it and it grows everywhere where we hunt.

Hunted on a place south of Alpine and we would see 20-25 mule deer in and around feeders every morning and evening hunt. Put the feeders out and keep feed in them and they will come. They like the protein better than corn and they like the self feeders better than the throwing feeders.

How to hunt them depends on how much land you have to hunt. If you have a lot, drive and glass or get as high as possible and glass and then stalk. Chunking rocks in deep canyons will get them moving and you will see a lot of deer, but sometimes it is hard to judge a bucks' rack with them heading out over the next horizon. Sneaking up to deep draws and watching for a long time is a lot of fun and you never know what you will see.

Try cotton seed. Nothing was working for us and that did the trick.

I offer primarily free range hunts and also preserve hunts on 1 million acres across west and southwest Texas for native and exotic game.
