I am one. got teh cross bow last year after not being able to bow hunt for 2 years from froozen shoulder. Now can draw the bow without too much pain when set at 45lbs but kinda like the crossbow.

I wonder how many crossbow hunters will be out during ARCHERY season? I shoot a bow, but it is only a matter time before my arthritic left shoulder (I shoot left handed), is going to force me into a crossbow. I look forward to it, so I can honestly debate bow snobs like you about "ARCHERY season". Bet your hung up on people that rifle hunt in October on MLDs too.

I Will ... I love shooting my excalibur . Although I really miss my compound but after a shoulder injury a year ago there is no way I will be shooting it for awhile if ever again. The crossbow is the next best thing. Unfortunately there is sooooo many uninformed people when it comes to them much like when compounds first came out. No they don't shoot 600 FPS and you can't take 90 yard shots. The shot ranges are the same- ideal is 20 yards max for me is 40... Happy Huntin

Since I intend to fully take advantage of the opportunity to spend more time afield hunting, I will utilize a crossbow this season (and the seasons thereafter).

hunting is hunting, as long as it is legal, I am glad people are out there supporting our sport. Some day I will not be able to pull back my bow, that will not stop me, I will get a cross bow and continue to hunt during archery season.

Well for the sake of discussion I will pose an alternative view point I guess (and I'll try to keep it civil, I hope you will do the same).
I don't think crossbows have any place in archery season. Its a slippery slope with all this technology and even compounds now are so advanced that it makes me wonder. To me, the point of archery season is to give a timing advantage to those who choose to pursue a more challenging type of hunting.
My solution is to leave archery season for traditional archery only.

before long I don't think there will be much of an archery season unless hunting public land.
I know 1 in my crew that will, but I plan to tell her quite often she wouldn't be able to shoot a compound worth a flip, so maybe she will give it a try.

I don't care either way i guess as i don't see a direct impact on my hunts.... I don't have anyone who hunts the same land as me that will be getting out earlier because of the crossbow laws.
However, If i was making the rules, there would be an archery only season, followed by a cross bow season, then blackpowder and followed by the general gun season. I like the idea of a season progressing.
I'm thankful for the things i have and all the things i don't

I really didn't want them in october at first but it really hasn't seemed to make much a difference, not a whole lot of xbow hunters anyway. Xbows in october for everyone is ok with me as long as it keeps the rifle hunters content and they don't try extending rifle season into october again, I can accept that compromise. TPWD recently added a crossbow category to their lottery hunts and from what I'm hearing 90% of the guys selected are compound bow hunters who are having to go out and buy a crossbow to participate in these hunts.

I'm only ok with crossbows in archery season if it is a person with a disability.

I don't have a problem with crossbows, but I don't think they should be allowed in archery season except for youth and those with disabilities. If you want to hunt with a crossbow you can hunt in November.

If things were left up to me to make rules where we hunt, I would allow bows and xbows the first 2 weekends of archery season and then no one step foot back on the place after the foodplots go in that 2nd weekend of Oct.
(1 vehicle going in the friday before the gun opener @ lunchtime to pour out massive amounts of corn and pull SD cards would be the only exception)

I love hunting and love to bowhunt. However I would consider crossbow hunting if I had a crossbow. It certainally is a big advantage as to bow hunting as is a compound bow vs. long bow. However I believe archery season is for "bow only" !!! If there was a crossbow only sesason between archery and rifle that would be kewl too!!!

I can see both sides of the coin but don't care either way. Since I am the only hunter on my place I guess I can over look the crossbow thing. Man it is nice having the place to myself and not have to argue with other hunters about lease rules.

Hunting is hunting so why care what the next guy is hunting with on his on place. I say use what you want and who cares what someone else uses. Its like complaining that you use a 22-250 and other guys use a 30-06. As long as Im hunting Im happy and im sure others feel the same.

During archery season I will be out with my bow some days, but on some days with my crossbow. And a rifle for hogs on some hunts too. I like to change it up for different hunts. In fact I could safely say that I will take the rifle out less in October than I did before because of the Crossbow opportunitys I now have from rifle stands that I was unable to use a verticle bow in without hanging a separate stand.

Did anybody answer the man's question. i think there will be plenty of crossbow hunters, and plenty of wounded deer cause people are going to try to take 60-80yard shots with them, which there is no problem doing that as long as you know what your cross bow is capable of, but alot of people are going out buying them cause they think its easier and it has more of a range compared to a traditional or compound bow.

I dont think there should be an archery season!
People who bow hunt do for a variety of reasons, the thrill, the challenge,... but I would bet a far greater number do it just because it allows them to start earlier.
If you want a challenge then man up to it and hunt with a bow and do it during regular season. I hunt with rifle, bow, pistol, and blackpowder and truely believe there should be only one season for all of them. The lease that I hunted on for the past 21 years didnt allow hunting during archery season, or youth season, everyone started at the same time. If you chose to hunt with a bow then you did it because you wanted to not to get first pic of the heard.
I think the major reason people bow hunt is to get out there before thier neighbors do, not for added challenge of the hunt.
