$1850. 3 day hunt. Calling and baiting. Ranch borders Big Bend state park on 3 sides. 2 close encounters with lions last year, multiple sightings. They follow the aoudad out here which we have alot of.
First year a hunt like this is to be offered. Unlimitted predators allowed on this hunt. Guided. (915) 328-0645 Mike.
I will be back in town Monday.

Mike,
Please keep us posted if you book these lion hunts!! I think that is an awsome method instead of using hounds.. I am curious to see your success rates.
Good Luck!

I was under the impression that you can't guide hunts for mountain lions here in Texas? Not sure baiting for them is legal either? anyone know the rules?

I just read the 2010-2011 book the other night (not cover to cover) but the only thing I saw regarding mountain lions was that they are open season and they ask that you report sightings/harvests to an 800 number.

Sorry but running down a beautiful animal to the point of exhaustion with a pack of wild crazed dogs and then walking up and shooting it with a pistol IS NOT FAIR CHASE HUNTING! It is cruel and should be banned across all of North America. I hunted a ranch in Junction Texas for years, we had a resident male cougar that would walk by my deer stand a least a couple times a season, we NEVER found any livestock that had been downed by this lion and the livestock manager told us he had only lost a small number of sheep or goats to this cougar. It was an awesome sight every time I saw him and we were instructed by the land owners to LEAVE HIM BE....

While I agree with you about hound hunting, no one has mentioned it here in reference to mountain lion hunting. The only method that has been discussed here is calling and baiting, which is time and labor intensive, and doesn't always guarantee a shot. Fair Chase enough for me.

I agree with AP, I am specifically looking for calling/bating hunts which is the same things we do with deer or at least most of us do with our feeders so I personally have no issue with that but thanks for all the feedback guys.

No hounds here. This will be a tough hunt. You can bait them in Texas if you want to. There are no regs against it. It is a predator.
I will keep everyone updated. It will be 4 or 5 months before this hunt is conducted.

TX DEER HUNTER,
I just can not figure out what the hell to say in response.
....................
I know this I have never met a rancher anywhere that thought any loss of livestock was acceptable. I honestly think your making it all up.

It was an awesome sight every time I saw him and we were instructed by the land owners to LEAVE HIM BE.... This my friends is a remarkable display of ignorance. First of all..its Texas. Call it a mountain lion. Not Puma or Cougar.. The ranch you hunted on had sheep and goats and did not lose many head to it? Well.. that is one dumb rancher or a blatant lie. I guarantee you it killed many sheep and goats. Mountain lions hide their kills and many times bury them with dirt. Perhaps the rancher didn't find them, but I assure you they were there. We have several ranches with sheep and goats on them. Any hunter of ours who refused to shoot one wouldn't be coming back the next year. They will wipe out your deer and livestock before you know what happened. As far as dogs and chase being unfair...that is absurd. So you think its much more fair to bait deer with corn, doe scent, syrups, scent cover, buck bombs, etc. etc. and sit on a stool for hours on end until one finally comes in before you take a 50 yard shot at him? You have never been on a dog chase for anything have you? Dont get me wrong, I dont have anything against deer hunting. But to sit there as "Tx Deer Hunter" and criticize another form of it is retarded. Your argument would make more sense if you were Ms. PETA herself. I almost think Tx Deer Hunter is being a dumbars just to get us riled up. No one could be this dumb.

x2, I think hunting lions is the true defintion of hunting, because they could actually be hunting you while you are hunting them...yikes

I hunt deer and turkeys by a feeder, hunt dove, pheasants, and quail chasing them with my dogs. I would have NO problems hunting lions with bait or chasing them with dogs. Let the Hunt begin.

Does anyone have any suggestions on a good scope for this hunt?
I might have to take a few longer range shots and I want to make sure I’m hunting with something that will do the job. 99% of the time I hunt with an open site rifle but for a really long shot 2-400 yards I want to make sure I am covered. Currently I have a cheaper scope on an 8mm Mauser that has been sportorized...
The requirements for the scope are: -simi reasonable price (I know that’s open for debateable) -Id love a scope that has a distance compensator like I have on my bsa sweet 17 -id love something with lots of magnification for long shots to be safe.
If there is any reason I should not use an 8mm can you let me know why?
I dont want to spend a ton on a new gun setup so if possable I'd like to make something I have work and change out or add a scaope.
Thanks Shane

Well I agree with Tx Deer Hunter. It has nothing to do with being a peta pusher it has to do with running something to death then shooting it. If he wouldn't have said that it was a bait/call hunt I would not like it. Im not saying that either side is right/wrong, but everyone has their beliefs.
I for one like Ga hunting laws. You CANNOT hunt over corn/food plots or bait any animals. You can't run dogs. It is real hunting.
Just a good ol disabled veteran
