So I have been looking thru my APH book that came in the mail. Anybody have any pro's or con's on the dove areas close to Austin?
Has Granger WMA even been good for doves? I was looking on the north side of the lake and looks like some good tree lines to setup on.
Also. Do you have to wear hunter Orange on the APH lands for dove hunting?
Also, is beer in the field allowed on the APH lands?
Thanks!
Brian

You do not have to wear hunter orange for Migratory Birds or Turkeys. Not sure about the beer. I would say no beer and guns and birds at the same time do not mix very well. I would save the beer for home. Not sure of the regulation. Check the prohibited acts early in the book.

Alcohol is prohibited on public lands per my booklet. Good, I just need to find that in the book to show my other hunters... I had hoped it was written down so I dont have to argue and look like the nervous Nelly.

You cannot drink on any TPWD lands, and since the majority of public lands are leased by them for our use, the same rules apply. It is also stated on page XI in the front of your booklet.

That's not to say we haven't snuck in a little something in our coffee or brought beer onto public lands (don't anymore). I've only had one GW stop and talk to us while hunting public so chances are you would be ok, but all it takes is that one time.

Oh I was looking for a reason to stop someone in my hunting party from bringing beer. So that worked perfectly.
Granger WMA area was slow this evening. Not may birds or hunters..

Check public hunting lands booklet, http://www.tpwd.state.tx.us/huntwild/hunt/public/lands/table_contents/media/pwd_bk_w7000_0112a.pdf. Page xi. The Prohibited Acts Alcohol is under the influence of alcohol or consumes an alcoholic beverage while engaged in hunting activities, or publicly consumes or displays an alcoholic beverage; My understanding is that you may get ticket by bring beer in public land. Please let your hunting party know it, for everyone's safety.
