Anyone actually own one? What do you think? Ibought one for relatively nothing, brand new. I googled it and came up with this. Most people say it is junk, yet these same people have never owned one, much less shot one. Mostly just rumors or stories reposted from oone forum to another.

Here's what I've found so far.
The bolt is kinda iffy. Looks and feels like it needs a really good cleaning and maybe a little polishing.

The stock is ugly. Nothing to do about it.

The scope on it is a cheapo.

Question is,is it worth my time and effort to clean the bolt and polish it to achieve better results? Or,since I got a deal on it just trade it or sell it off?

i have the 7mm model, after a bipod, limbsaver recoil pad, limbsaver barrel de-resonator, i'm putting down 1" groups at a hundred yards.
and for what i paid figure that isn't to shabby.
never had any problems. sure it needed a good cleaning when i got it, but i kind of enjoy shooting it.

what caliber do you have?

Life's journey is not to arrive at the grave safely in a well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, totally worn out, shouting.......holy kaka.....What a Ride!

I took it apart tonight and gave it a thorough cleaning. There was caked up grease from the factory in the bolt. Once it was clean,I reassembled it. Bolt is operating alot smoother now. Im gonna take it out after work tomorrow and see how it shoots. I have yet to see what is so bad about this particular gun.

Buddy i hunt with has a 7mm-08 and a .243, i shot both a couple times and i liked it. I know they get a lot of bad rep but i found them to shoot just fine by my book.
He uses his .243 for turkey and i ain't seen him miss a neck shot yet. He's a good shot but the gun has some say as well.

Personal experience: I liked the gun, not a fan of the stock but i like the gun.

I have a 710 which is the old school version of the 770. I have the 30.06 and can't complain at all I have shot 8 deer with it in 6 years everyone has dropped where they stood. I bought it just because it was on sale cheap and figured its a remington why not. I have not had one problem out of mine in 6 years of shooting it. Shoots great and puts meat in the freezer every year. I did paint the stock on my because the weird greyish color was not appealing. But the 770'S look much better.

My brother in law bought my dad one and the only true complaint I have is the trigger is harder than hell to pull! We couldn't even sight it in because we all terked trying to pull it. Yeah, yeah I know they make replacements.

I bought my grandson one in a youth, because the price is right and I don't have to really worry about dinging it up. He has already dropped it in the mud and banged it on everything from the 4 wheeler to the deer blind. Yes the action is rough but so is my grandson and it has served it's purpose and he has already killed several animals with it. Would I buy one for myself, NO.
