Woo Hoo! Heading out to www.loneconeoutfitters.com for my first Archery Elk Hunt in S.W. Colorado in a couple of weeks and I can't wait. We are staying at Lone Cone but doing the self guided on public land. The guys I am going with have been going for several years and have some great Bulls under there belts. Have my new Bowtech dialed in and thumping and can't wait. Gotta run, headed back to Whitney to do an evening trip. Just wanted to share.

Use to archery hunt on Lone Cone mountain back in the day. We pitched camp on the mountain at about 10,500 ft. Expect any kind of weather - woke up to 5" snow one opening morning. Although we were hunting muleys, we saw lot of good elk north of the Devils Chair area. Hope you are in decent shape. Good luck! up

I'm jealous.
Hunt the seep below devils chair if it's warm.
If it's cold drop off of the blowout and work your way
around to the south side.
Good luck you will come home tired.

Thanks for the tips everyone. As far as in good shape.... Not bad for 53 with high mileage and low maintenance smirk. Guiding and throwing a net, working my ranch and cattle and another 1500 acre cattle ranch keeps me in pretty good shape, that and wore smooth out. Work harder now than I did when I had a full time job. I'm sure the altitude and up and down the mountains will wear on me no doubt. I plan on taking my time as much as possible. Thanks again!

Going on my first elk hunt this year too. Going to northern Colorado on a fully guided hunt during the first rifle season. Roughly 6 weeks and counting.

Let us all know how you did.
