white tipped dove is mostly grey like a mourning dove...but its tail is white at the tip (hence the name)...and reason why u leave one wing on them in the field is for identification in case the Warden drops by and takes count of ur doves. google all these doves (mourning, rock (pigeon), white-winged, ringneck, white-tipped)and fimiliarize urself with them...and u'll be alright. whatever u do...DONT KILL TURTLE (INCA) DOVES! these are the small ones that fly about 5 feet above ground...they will tempt u...but DONT DO IT!

"CAMO" is my favorite color!

Read the whole link. It is important.

http://www.tpwd.state.tx.us/publications/annual/hunt/migratory/

I quoted this part for your answer, but you should still read the entire page at the link.

Quote:
Migratory game bird stamp endorsement required to hunt any doves in any season. NOTE: There is no closed season or bag limit restrictions for Eurasian collared-doves or common pigeons (rock doves); however, it is recommended that plumage be left on these birds for identification purposes.

You only have to worry about white tipped dove if you live south of I-10.

Has anyone ever personally killed a white tipped dove? I've never even seen one, much less killed one.

Silver spurs and gold tequila
keep me hanging on.
Pretty girls and old cantinas
give me shelter from the storm.

We have also never harvested a white tip and it's best to leave one wing on when you clean your birds .

It's been said that white tips have been spotted up & around here in Young county and that the GW will be checkin up

This is a white wing dove

This is a white tip dove grin

Most people can't tell it's a white tip until it's downed. What do you do if you already have 2 white wings in your aggregate? Stop hunting?

I can spot a white wing in air, but I'm not so sure I can spot a white tip since I've never seen one....I don't think.

The typical way to breast dove is to pull out the whole breast bone and the wings are attached to that.

Just stick your thumb in the belly and pull up on the bottom of the breast bone. The breast and wings will come away from the back, legs head and guts.
