I have a rra elite operator that came with a break on it. I am wanting to replace it with a flash hider. I called a gunsmith in my area and he said he wouldn't touch it. Does anyone know where I can get this done and how much it will cost me? Thanks in advance for any help you can give.

14.5 barrel or 16" barrel????
If the stores closed up tomorrow, a man should have enough Ammunition, Bic lighters,Tabasco sauce, Whiskey, and freeze dried Coffee to last him and his family until the casket. Johnny Loco

He probably won't touch it because the brake is more than likely permanently attached already to comply with the NFA laws. He would probably risk damaging the barrel to get it off.

Only be permanently attached if barrel is less than 16' to make it legal...On 16 they are just threaded on with a crush washer.

The only reason a FH would be permenately attatched is if the barrel itself is under 16" like devildog28 said and it was to bring the barrel length to 16.1". Its very possible you have a 14.5 ,or shorter, barrel with a FH permenately attatched, that would be the only reason I could see why a smith wouldnt want to mess with it. That being said if it IS permanently attatched I can remove it but aother FH would have to be tacked back on. Did you try and break it loose yourself ?

The break is threaded, pinned and welded on according to rra.

Then you're stuck with it. Well actually you can do it, I wouldn't try it but you might want to. here is a link to a DIY on AR15.com scroll down the page until you come to get topic "Remove your permanently attached muzzle device". It will walk you through it... Here is the link.

Thanks guys. I guess I will either sell it or live with it. One of my friends told me to put duct tape around it while I'm hunting with it with no ear protection. Would that work?

Then you're stuck with it. Not at all !! Like I said in my previous post if you want it removed I can do it but another FH will have to be tacked back on. There are two ways to remove the FH one being the link on the AR forum but the last one I removed was a $80 FH so that wasnt an option ! LOL There are a lot of FHers out there now days that will make a huge improvement ! Look up Smith Enterprizes Vortex on You Tube and you can see the difference it makes vs the standard birdcage.

Thanks KRoyal I reread the post and you are correct! Good news is you are not stuck with it!! Brandon is supposed to be the man when it comes to AR's, so take him up on his offer. And the vortexs are pretty mean!

Brandon, how much would you charge to take the break off and put a fh on?
